When should I upgrade my computer?

I'm thinking about getting a new computer when windows 8 comes out or a bit later (a few months after win8).
So what do you think about the timing? I will have 2000EUR to spend on it, also I will buy a new 24" 16:10 IPS LCD to boot.
So what do you think about my timing?
Windows 8 is expected somewhere in Q4 2012.

I would say wait til ivy bridge until you upgrade.

I think you might be able to hold off until haswell. That should only be a few months after Windows 8 and it should be better than Ivy. I honestly think that you're asking this question way too early though.

that's a good idea but I sometimes buy hardware when I get bored from my current hardware even if the computer is enough for my needs

haswell will be a new socket or will it use a LGA1155 or LGA2011 socket?

Haswell would be last hurrah of LGA 1155. The last for LGA 2011 would be Ivy Bridge-E.

Haswell is going to be the next new architecture after Sandy Bridge so it's a Tock and usually, unlike the Ticks(Die Shrink), the Tocks get a new socket and it's rumoured to be LGA 1150

Intel Haswell Info: Single Chip for Ultrabooks, GT3 GPU for Mobile, LGA-1150 for Desktop

If you don't need more than 4 cores then you should probably wait until a very strong IPC improvement is being brought in by a new architecture, so I'd say Haswell is good for you.
Still I agree that the upgrade itch may catch you because it's gonna make you wait a while

I honestly don't know. Judging from history, I would say it will be a new socket. Don't quote me on that though, my crystal ball isn't functioning correctly right now.
