Hi guys,

Besides being more efficient, when is gonna be the time you change all your hardware over to these smaller chips?

I bought my second X58 Gigabyte G1 Sniper in 2011 and my primary graphics is a 6870. I'm thinking this time I will try and make second parts available on the market. Id like to wait for these new technologies to become more mature and increased saturation in the mktplace before I pretty much have to think about starting over, new blocks, boards and so on.

Were into ET

On the 29th. I benchmark with DI/LN2 and this chip is made for that it seems. Day one adopter here.

Yes. Thats the retail availability date of Ivybridge, the 22nm CPU part I assume you are talking about?

Yeah thought you might be able to buy one already yes ivy-bridge I won't go for that on day one I need to wear in some older parts a little, I feel before getting rid. So what board you got for these? P.s. I was kind of referring to the 28 nm process graphics as well, the lot

You can in some places, yes.

Z77 is the new chipset for IB, though P67/Z68 and I believe most of the lesser ones will work with it.

22nm GPU's will not be out for a while, I dont think this year, but not certain that.

Geforce gtx 680 is 28 nm not 22. Its the logical step from i7 920 to ivy-bridge bypassing Sandy bridge to a Z77 with PCI-e Gen 3 and a SSD or two also. I should really have said 2x nm processes to cover myself. Lol. Do you know any triple channel memory to run at 2200 Mhz? Haven't t found any I'm usually running at 1600.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Never said 680 was 22nm... in fact what I said alludes to the opposite of that.

Not entirely sure what you are getting at here anymore.

Good Luck man!

EDIT: Overclocking memory is useless outside of bencmarking. Not worth the extra cash at all.

I'm thinking of keeping current parts until the refresh of 14nm around 2015, and for gfx, ssd and ddr4 of course. everything has to be 14nm if not what would be the point of waiting.

likely never :D

at least not with current tech.

False. There are transistors the size of a single atom. It'll just take a while for it to be implemented ;D

What do you mean oc to 4.0 plus? I think the reason AMD will drop the R 58X0 is due to the latest titles these cards will come on at around 20 fps with ultra settings.

I want to get your thoughts on tubing for a loop. Some online distributors bash out the stuff at a huge premium charging £6 p/m, when a hardware store will cut you out the same length of the stuff for 75p p/m. And you get some fresh air and speak to someone and don't have to wait for the delivery van. Is this stuff inferior to the 10x mark up that the brands are offering? I think not. How can they get away with what they charge its robbery and I know they robbed me enough times already.

The tubing for 75p isn't as pliable and is slightly opaque. I like to think the good stuff was sold a bit cheaper than the premium.

Hi

Some things to consider

Inner Diameter: is the ID compatible with compression fittings and barb fittings?
Outer Diameter: is the OD compatible with compression fittings?
Wall Thickness: is the WT compatible with compression fittings?
What is its thermal Max Temperature 60ºC & Min Temperature -45ºC!
Stain Resistant: dose it have a glassy-smooth inner bore?
Is it non-oxidizing and non-contaminating?
Can it be used with virtually all inorganic chemicals? such as [Biocide and Additives]
Is it crack resistant?

If the answer to the above fits the 75p tubing then go for it

nb: this may be of interest

Hi

Ram is now sold as dual or quad channel due to support intel built into their new line up of CPU's

Socket 1366 CPU's have an intergrated tri channel controller

What happens if you put quad channel memory into an x58 mobo? good question; I have just done this as you will see from my system specs.

Step's I had to take; updated my bios as the rating for the memory modules was not natively supported, manually setup the timings and voltages; had to settle for timings 9-10-9-28 1T 1866Mhz as opposed to XMP 9-11-10-28 2T 2133Mhz 1.65v

9-10-9-28 1T.jpg

Note: asus rampage extreme -II option "C" [see attached] allows 4x memory modules in Tri Channel; however if I set the XMP the PC would boot but only in dual channel recognising 8Gb of the 16Gb and was not stable with the XMP @ 2000Mhz or 2133Mhz [this memory is designed for the x79 boards and dose a super job]

C Rampage Extreme -II.jpg

Edit: when I used 3x memory modules in Tri channel 12Gb the system was not stable using the XMP profiles @ 2000Mhz or 2133Mhz 1.65v [this memory is designed for the x79 boards and dose a super job] Edit: after setting loose timmings; system is stable @ Gskill RipjawsZ 16Gb 9-10-9-28 2T @ 2021Mhz [back to back @ 8~10]

@ OP; your X58 Gigabyte G1 Sniper has a similar setup to the ARE-II; the GG-1 can use 4 X 2Gb memory modules configured in slots DDR3_2 DDR3_1 DDR3_3 DDR_5 being able to utilize Tri channel or 3 x 2Gb modules in DDR3_1 DDR3_3 DDR3_5 [the XMP profiles for the F3-18400CL8D-4GBPIS (2Gx2) have not been certified on an x58 platform and may not operate at the stated speed XMP 2300Mhz 1.65v]

best of luck if you choose to do this

What happens if you put quad channel into an x58 mobo?

It should use only 3 channels. On an LGA2011 board, depending on the placement of memory, you can run single (1/2 sticks), dual(2/4), triple(3/6), and quad channel(4/8) so I don't see why it wouldn't just not use the last channel since there is nothing to really do with it considering X58 isn't fully wired for it.

I get the feeling I'm none the wiser but understood all points well. Does that make sense? The G1sniper memory support, try saying that before putting your teeth in, states support for RAM 3 sticks of DDR 3 2300 18400 with the XMP. Its quite a bit faster than 12800. Almost 50% but I'm still concerned over the difficulty. Even more so after your comments, Law-II.

Hi

Looking at the QVL on gigabyte site they have two modules as follow:

G.SKILL 2GB F3-18400CL8D-4GBPIS DS v 3PCS [Can opperate in Triple Channel]*

G.SKILL 2GB F3-18400CL8T-6GBPIS DS v 3PCS [Can opperate in Triple Channel]**

the above have been certifyed by Gigabyte to work in tri channel
and are sold as (2Gbx2 4Gb kit*) (2Gbx3 6Gb kit**)

I looked very quickly online for either of these and could not see them for sale; that dose not mean they arent out there to be had. [the QVL list is not exhaustive and there may be other Triple Channel kits that would be compatible]

However on the G.Skill site it mentions that these have been qualified for P55 chipset and *G.Skill guarantees 2 Dimms dual channel operation with attached fan would reach announced specification.
http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=257&c1=1&c2=3

Note: "I bought this off a dude" you would have to strip the memory to fit that water block; btw you are @ 1600Mhz with extreme timings CL 7-7-7-24(CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
