Hello and good day to you!
Yea this is my first post here! I have trolled this board for along time and have never registered for one reason or another. I built a new system and am having some mild issues with some of the accompanying software and I thought that maybe some of you hardware guru's would be willing to guide me in the correct direction.

I will start with a system component list.

XFX 750i mobo
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300
XFX 260 GTX
OCZ SLI PC6400 (2x2048MB)
WD Caviar 500GB SATA
Kingwin Mach 1 800w
Windows 7 RC 7100
the rest of the stuff isn't relative to my post

The issue that I am having is basically a matter of not being able to tweak the system the way I would like to. The Nvidia software that I am using only reports a fraction of the options available. (I will post pictures of what I mean below) So I am not sure if this is just a matter of enabling or installing additional software or what.

Here is the CPU-Z findings: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=599692

Here is the GPU-Z findings: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/uy2wg/

Here is a few screenshots of the Nvidia software with the items unavailable:

MOBO ~

MEM ~

CPU ~

GPU ~

I know that my MOBO only supports 16x pcie and 8x pcie when running SLI but I don't think that is the issue as I am only running the one card, so why are these options not available to me? I looked for the solutions on the XFX and Nvidia sites but if you have every tried to find detailed information on either of those site you already know my pain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

David

Basically, use the overclocking features of the GPU and have it report all the memory settings.

you would get that in the BIOS, dont do any overclocking in windows, since it would usually require a restart anyway. as for the GPU clocks, click on the custom radio button and it should let you change the clocks

Well I thought of that however the hardware that I have is "supposed" to allow this to take place in Windows via the Nvidia Control Panel and then upon reboot it applies the settings, (I guess I fell for the oldest trick in the book huh? LOL) Also the user manual (which was a .pdf download from the XFX site and NOT included in the box with the card is almost useless as far as that goes.

Get EVGA Precission to overclock your graphics card.
For CPU and memory do it in the bios.

Where do you get your information? Overclocking from within Windows works just fine and doesn't require a restart. Can't think of any situation where it does. In fact, it's far easier if you want to find a max clock. This applies to both CPU and GPU.

When you find the desired stable clocks you can always apply them via the BIOS (system BIOS for CPU, modify and flash for GPU)

As with any 750i owner I advise, your first step should be to update your mobo BIOS to the latest there is. 750i boards are known for being very quirky. You can either visit the XFX site, register with the code that should be littered on the box somewhere to access support files, or if you have any on the CD that come with your mobo, install the software to carry out BIOS updates through Windows, there should be a option along the lines of "check for update", click that and your off.

The XFX site lists a v1.3 bin file and a v1.41 iso file. I have applied the v1.41. Yet the alot of the options are not selectable, I know it's hard to see in the screen shots I uploaded. I am using the 186.18 Nvidia drivers release as well, I think I will just leave it alone before I screw it up completely. :D

That attitude is not going to go over well here on TPU. We screw things up completely just for fun.

Nah breaking things is what makes OCing fun :D If you haven't already visit guru3d and look for the latest nvidia app thing, uninstall the one your using now and install the new one. Take a look in your BIOS too, you may find its easier to understand whats in there than using the nvidia app. If you can get some screenshots of your BIOS we can advise on some settings. I'll have a very similar CPU to yours soon, I ordered the Q8400 yesterday :D

Colour me pansy. I just wanted to tweak the memory and a few mild settings, I'll call it Lite-OC, for the whimpy!

Oh and BTW I think I found out what the deal is, apparently there is a PIN on the MOBO that prevents OC'ing that must be switched to allow the tweaking to commence, thank god for the internets and boards like this! cuz who knew?

I'll work on getting some BIOS SS's today.

lol so locate that jumper pin and switch it :D if you just want mild tweaking lower your CPU multi, change memory divider and aim for a higher FSB. That will give you more bandwidth and lower latency while maintaining stock CPU and memory frequencies. We will be able to be more specific once we see what options your BIOS has for OCing :toast:

So obviously the screen shots of the OC options would be of the most use, correct? Cuz I can see that will take some effort to upload so I don't wanna waste time on irrelevant SS's.

Anywhere in the BIOS that shows things like CPU multi, FSB, voltages for various things, thats what we need. All other stuff in the BIOS doesnt matter ;)

Lol ... the problem is that when you do an OC-Lite you are immediately drawn into the dark underbelly of OC'ing and will be pushing your rig to its limits in a couple of days.

Nothing else will matter, only to get an extra .0005 MHZ stable clock.

Well re-pinning it drastically changed the BIOS setup. I am waiting for my benchmark program to download (yea it does say 1 hours and whatever...) but in the meantime I ran and received 12900 VirtualMarks. Not bad as the closest match was some an i7 920 running a 295 GTX. Well see what happens after I benchmark and then tweak it.

Not a bad score. I'm hoping my Q8400 unshackles me 2 HD4830s.

Thanks. Two 4830's should play nice. I am kinda bummed out about the fact my first 'new generation' SLI will have to be 1 16x and 1 8x, but oh well, maybe by the time I can free up enough clams for a second video card I will grab up a 780 board or something as well. What I mean by 'new generation' is I had a pair of Voodoo2's that I ran SLI way back when. :sigh: Now I am really feeling old. :p

Ahh... I remember the VooDoos. Fantastic cards. I hate nVidia for putting 3Dfx out of business.

Man this 3DMarkVantage download still has 44 mins left. I could have flown to England, and went to and internet cafe copied it off a server onto a flash drive and flown home faster than this. I will post some more SS with what the re-pin changed in the BIOS.
