Hi,

Anyone know where I could buy a:
Tolyltriazole inhibited 'ethylene glycol' / 'anti-freeze' for coolant?

Thanks,

Nick

I've tried that, the second bit is easy it comes up every time -- but I can't find any with the Tolyltriazole.

Surely wherever you heard of this from can point you in the right direction? Seriously man, just get some LN2 and be done with it.

There's two types the Propylene one is the one used in food applications I can't remember the name of the other; I just had it up a minute ago.

Thanks ma heads exploding

You can't actually buy LN2 in the U.K anyway all you can get here is Dry Ice

others have done it with the chiller many times and more conveniently... I just don't want to ruin my blocks in the process

hoping if I do a little more work I can make it more convenient (like more work initially but more convenient in the long-run) with the chiller..

i'll google it,

I just heard u can't just use straight up anti-freeze because it corrodes the blocks... especially the nickel

but surely in the industrial industry they must use something... there must be a need other than PC liquid cooling for a coolant with a low freezing point that doesn't corrode copper and brass

I managed to get 25 litres of distilled delivered from this company in one go (free delivery) so if I can just find the supplier

Got the distilled from this company called Darrant Chemicals I think it was... but they don't do anything like this...

WINTROL® T PRODUCTS ALL CONTAIN TOLYLTRIAZOLE (TT OR METHYLBENZOTRIAZOLE). TT is a mixture of 4 and 5 methylbenzotriazole. It is a well-known copper and high copper alloy corrosion inhibitor used in applications such as water treatment, engine coolants, metal working fluids, lubricants, and cleaners. Because of the low solubility of TT, formulating help may be required. Contact Technical Support.

Propylene Glycol causes "gunk" but there's another Glycol... can't remember the bloody name of it I had it on the screen a ### minute ago if it was what u posted in number 4 but with the Propylene changed to , so...

I have ran standard anti-freeze ever since I filled my loop like 7 years ago. 25% Ethylene Glycol with 75ish% distilled water, using some water wetter and a bit of dish soap too. No issues, no growth, no corrosion.

I did use Fleetguard branded anti-freeze with a molybdenum additive present.

You got nickel in there too?

Tolyltriazole in Ethylene Glycol, would be perfect (I think)

Diethylene Glycol is a terrible heat conductor (about 10x worse than water).. but Tolyltriazole in Ethylene Glycol would give about -15c to -30 with only a 3% drop in thermal conductivity

(I think)

The Ethylene Glycol stops it freezing and the Tolyltriazole is best for anti-corrosion of copper & brass (I think)

I wouldn't run any kind of chemicals through plated Nickel. If you have to, you could get stuff from EK: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-ekoolant-evo-clear-premix-1

Even then, I'd probably mix half the bottle with distilled/ionized water.

The EK coolant freezes at -3 :-(

or it would be perfect

I did see it and I was trying to get my head around it by remembering the different glycols (sorry)

T-35IP – Tolyltriazole in Isopropyl Alcohol << too corrosive
T-40DG – Tolyltriazole in Diethylene Glycol << bad thermal conductivity
T-35PG – Tolyltriazole in Propylene Glycol << causes "gunk" in coolant

the one I needed is the only one not listed lol (which is probably why its so hard to find online, if it even exists)...

but yeah good idea i'll try contacting them :)
only they do seem like the kind of company that only deals with (or talks to) other companies, not individual members of the public.... i'll try.. :)

T-#### –Tolyltriazole in Ethylene Glycol << that's the one I need :)

After that; the liquid electrical tape, die-electric grease, some good armaflex and then open the chiller up and try and see how to manipulate the thermostat and then i'll be well on my way to 24/7 -20 degrees C at 1/4th of the price of one of those phase-change systems that only does CPU not CPU + GPU :)

Okay.. maybe not quite 24/7.... but I will be able to do short benches without too much upheaval..

Maybe come in from work and do a session without having to take 101 precautions while opening some £500 industrial cryo-cylindar of LN2

People think its easy with LN2, spend a few hundred on a pot, grease up the CPU and the other one or two other things u regularly see and hear about online but what they don't say is that the special "legal" container (much like how u need to have a legal container to fill diesel in) to have a company even consider delivering to you, is probably thousands of pounds. and its not something u can exactly keep about the house.. lol

I'd be happy with -20 on the chiller,
for now :)

This might point you in the right direction.

https://www.pmcsg.com/azoles/

looks like some kind of PPM rating. These guys use the code TT-25-EG for Tolyltriazole Ethylene Glycol mixtures. So maybe shave that down to T-25 to reach the standard everyone else appears to be using and try your search again. Or shit. just email these people and ask them to send you a bottle and mix it yourself.

ethylene vs propylene

thanks for feedback guys really appreciate it :)

I've emailed as dorsetknob suggested last night.

Not heard anything back yet but hopefully they've just not received it yet :) (i'm worried the're one of these companies that doesn't deal with members of the public directly -- some companies will only deal with other companies).

I've had a look at what OneMoar (and solaris & others) posted too still doing a bit of digging and waiting on the reply from the supplier :)

When I can get everything running reliably and safely I'll probably do a little article (detailed) aimed at the beginner for a cheaper more practical (safe way) way to get CPU & GPU -15c

Got some support request going on around insulation too regarding the liquid electrical tape and varying thicknesses and application methods/removal... so all still work in progress for now :)

Still feels like a bit of a dream but definitely not impossible. I'm not the brightest spark but I'm definitely no dafty either, so just trying my best with what god gave me lol.

if you are going negative with the temps you need antifreeze and a way to control the condensation

you should know that
the chiller can get down to -10 or lower
