Unless you find a really good price on this 7990, a set of 290's would give you more fps for your money.

I already have an XFX 7970 to pair it up with, and this design matches my white/black rig perfectly

I would be slightly cautious about this XFX design. I had two XFX 7950 DD and the cooler was appalling. It looked awesome, but in order to keep the heat pipes inside the nice shroud, the actual heat sink was tiny. I swapped them within days. The 7990 is two 7970 and although it's triple slot and 3 fans, look at how much space the heat pipes are taking up and how narrow the heatsink is. All the reviews for the 7950 were good too, but once you mention it on the forums, most people said they overheated. Both mine easily got to 100C and 95C on the back of the PCB and my PC has excellent cooling. Even at 1v, they couldn't remove the heat from the GPU. Just make sure you look into it.

The only thing (weirdly) that causes mt XFX 7970 to get really hot is heavy DirectX 9 titles (Like Payday 2).... but DX11 games (Like Battlefield 3) it stays under 70c.

I think the cooler will do just fine.

what about the fan speed? and different game may utilize the card differently
have you checked with other game, if it acts the same. its like payday 2 take your card to the max

The fan speed goes right up past 4000rpm, its like a vacuum cleaner, seems payday 2 and skyrim are the only 2 that do it.

That card looks just damn good! It is not trying to look sexy (like most custom designed cards moronically are trying), it just looks very functional. Three fans, as large as can fit.
I'm sure if you'd get high temps with these, it's because of bad main airflow in your case. Improve the case's airflow then. Good luck finding the card though, i can't help.

Worked fine with a 6870x2 and a 6870
ahh you see, the 7 series has had very bad driver support. even my 7790 is playing some games at 16fps on low settings.... like CoD Ghosts. :(

That's not a real 7990, that's the non-amd approved garbage that overheats. Real 7990's are "malta"

Um that heat sink looks like it will cool like crap. The fins are too few and oriented in such a way that the center fan will have a airflow dead zone right under it. Seriously get one of those moster Powercolor 7990s with 3 8 pins. Those have a better VRM and the cooler is almost certain to work very well unlike this one which looks like a few sheets of paper glued together and painted to look like metal.
BTW XFX has some of the worst HD7970/7950 PCB designs (they are worse than reference) so I have zero faith in anything they make.
