This (3950x) will be a perfect upgrade to my 1950x. Im building a new monster gaming rig and will retire my 2700x to the wife and my 1950x will stay my editing PC. Im bummed by the price a little bit but it's only$50 higher than I suspected it's high point would've been. On another note it is cheaper than what i paid for my 1950x @launch so i can't complain... better performance @ a lower cost. Another all AMD rig for me (3 in a row).

I voted for the R7 3800x because of the higher base clocks vs R7 3700x but I'm also interested in the R7 3700x because of the 65w tdp.
Waiting for reviews.

3950x so I my 9900k is always free to game on and no need to wait for work to be completed. And of course reducing the amount of time in which work is done

either the 3600 or 3700x - will be the best gamer since no dual ccx and gobs of cache, throw it into a budget board and tweak it. The way AMD bins, the chips are nearly the same anyways.

The price scaling to the high end this time around is extremely steep.

This is a comparison core count x price.

Ryzen 9 3950X (16c, $749) 105w 749/16 = $46.8 usd per core
Ryzen 9 3900X (12c, $499) 105w 499/12 = $41.5 usd per core
Ryzen 7 3800X (08c, $399) 095w 399/08 = $49.8 usd per core
Ryzen 7 3700X (08c, $329) 065w 329/08 = $41.1 usd per core
Ryzen 5 3600X (06c, $249) 095w 249/06 = $41.5 usd per core
Ryzen 5 3600 (06c, $199) 065w 199/06 = $33.1 usd per core

Intel i9 9900k (08c, $499) 095w 499/08 = $62.3 usd per core
Intel i7 9700k (08c, $379) 095w 379/08 = $47.3 usd per core
Intel i5 9600k (06c, $262) 095w 262/06 = $43.7 usd per core

The winner here hands down is the 3900x, second stays with 3700x and third with 3950x.

Nope, Zen2 still uses 4core CCXes.
So, single chiplet cpus will have 3+3 or 4+4 layout.

that's odd because she demoed the 1 die zen 2 initially as the 8 core. Also it has exactly half the cache...??

I guess it's 2 CCX per die, but it's still better than 2 dies in the 12 and 16 core parts in games I imagine.

For me it's either the R9 3900x or R7 3700x but I have to wait for reviews to make a definitive choice.
Voted R9 3900x for now.

My next build

- 3900X (12c should be enough for what I'll do, 16 is already pushing it, and that price premium is a bit too spicy for my wallet)
- Some X570 board that is not ridiculously overpriced
- Unclear at this point what CPU cooler. Might reuse current Corsair H115i for new build, it's only 3 years old so should still work fine another 3 at least.
- (keeping the GTX 1080, no reason to upgrade this year)
- (no new memory, using the DDR4 that I have - 3000 Mhz CL15 - should be good enough for now)
- NVMe SSD 1TB (either current gen, which has dropped in price a lot, as low as 125 Euro), or new gen PCIe 4 if not costing an arm and a leg
- (keeping the case - Fractal Design R6)
- New PSU (not sure what yet), as current one, while (apparently) still working perfectly, is over 6 years old and I think it's efficiency has dropped quite a lot. Also repaired it's fan twice already...

Estimated costs ? about 1000 Eur, not that bad for doubling core count and more Mhz, + new platform with USB 3.2 and what I'm really interested in, a 2.5gbps NIC on board.

Maybe I am missing something but should't the 9600k be $43.7?

It was my calculation that was missing something, thanks.

Very good specs, I do agree, 16 cores is too much and in most workloads not needed, mobo b450 for now, gpu no need to upgrade, nothing major, nvme pcie4.0 will all be very bloody expensive, so no need too, psu is important especially if you live in the eu where electricity is expensive, any percentage of efficiency means saving and that pays the psu itself, memory, need to wait reviews but it will probably be a little higher than the 2xxx series, the 2xxx series needed 3444mhz to make wonders in single thread, this time with ryzen 3xxx, i think around 3600mhz or 4000mhz will be ideal, if they fixed the crap then memory 3200mhz will be enough.

Would love the 3950x but realistically I'm going for the 3800x and 32gb of ram. should be good for the next few years, coming from an 8530.

I will go for the 3950x for x470 boards I have, but were I too start fresh I'd go for a Threadripper for the added PCIE lanes bandwidth.

Next gen Threadripper on PCIE 4.0 wil be MIGHTY interesting!

you won't need new ryzen as 2700 you already have is sufficient enough to drive anything, everything else is money pit for new old hardware...

For now i´m most exited about Ryzen 9 3950X, and yes for now cause i´m awaiting reviews and also to see what intel will come out with before i finally replace my I7 980X with a new CPU.

But 16 cores at 749 USD compared to Intels offer, is not to shabby. Still an exspensive cpu on its own, but compared with intel it looks pretty neat.

We must never underestimate the power of hype and money more than sense and that thing called "mine is better than yours".

If you purchased that i7 980x 10 years ago then I must say, you really deserve that 3950x, no contest hehe

Software Windows 11
Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.

I would grab the 12 core and then save the mula for the Zen 2 + 16 core when they iron out the bugs and issues. On the other hand, I upgrade my CPUs way too damn often.
