3900X for me, 750$ too big for my pocket right now, let alone after 2 weeks of metal & alcohol in UK in August. Maybe end of 2019/next year i'll go for 3950X+AsRock X570 Aqua combo. :) 3900X OC'd to 3950X highest turbo clock (4.7) + Aorus X570 Xtreme = 12c/24t of awesomeness.

P.S. [3900X] will be pitted gainst i9 9900KS cause - even tho the later is 14nm & 8c/16t part, same price as 3900X & even higher turbo boost (5.0GHz) on all cores. Definitely exciting year for OC'ers around the world.

I am debating between the 3800x and 3900x. I could put those cores to use for crunching, but I am actually pretty interested in the massive cache that comes with the 3900x.

Not too excited for any of the Ryzen 3rd generation, because the system I have is adequate for my needs. I am not CPU limited with the 8600K at the moment. If I was still running a 3770K, I would be more interested in the 3600.

I'm running an X5680 in my personal gaming rig and am perfectly happy with it. The 3700X is tempting me. However, I too am waiting to see the new TR line as quad channel ram is a thing and has benefits that I would be interested in as I do more than gaming.

We have a W3680, virtually same processor as the X5680 but with fully unlocked multiplier IIRC. Its starting to feel slow. I think I have it clocked to 4 GHz.

I'm not OCing and not feeling any slow down or laggyness at all. Running Win7Pro with a custom configured third party firewall.

At the risk of sounding excessively pedantic, the poll is illogical. It's fine until one gets to the second part, with the "none, because" options. Those don't actually follow from the question.

The question clearly asks the person to differentiate between the 3000-series Zen CPUs, precisely in terms of which is the most appealing to the person. Rejecting the question while substituting an irrelevant opinion about another product is illogical.

To make the poll logical, one might have options such as:

I don't have enough information
Uncertain

Unless a person simply lacks adequate information to form an opinion worthy of excitement, one can differentiate between those CPUs enough to chose a favorite. Another option that could be included is "None of your business" or "Wouldn't you like to know?" It's possible to reject answering the question in a logical manner.

I will go for the 3950x for x470 boards I have, but were I too start fresh I'd go for a Threadripper for the added PCIE lanes bandwidth.

Next gen Threadripper on PCIE 4.0 wil be MIGHTY interesting!
I already have 4x16GB DDR4 3200MHz so TR platform has me more intrigued at what AMD comes up with. They could potentially have something similar to the Ryzen 9 3900X with a higher TDP that can scale further or boost on all cores and/or higher peak frequency and maybe costs between that and Ryzen 9 3950X. When you take into consideration quad channel memory along with higher peak frequency and/or higher all core boost on a 12c/24t chip for a Zen2 Threadripper it could be a awesome value.

I know AMD will obviously have some more content creation focused brute force increase core count chips over the Ryzen 9 3950X the question is if they'll slot in a chip between it and the Ryzen 9 3900X in terms of "overall" system productivity so to speak, but with superior "gaming" performance than what AM4 platform's top chip is able to offer with it's smaller socket size, lower TDP, and reduce memory channel bandwidth. To me that is the thing to lookout for I want to see if AMD some some surprises or not. I don't see what AMD couldn't offer such a chip so wait and see.

The Ryzen 5 3600 (6c/12t $199) could be a really compelling chip. I'm curious how that one ends up overclocking the per core value per $ on it is really solid. If it overclock's reasonably well on top of it that chip will be a easy sell for a lot of people. The 3700X is another one to look out for I'd say as well. To be fair the overclocking on all of them will be intriguing and determine a lot of people's purchase decisions on which to opt for.

I really need to see some overclocking comparisons between the 3700X and 3800X. I am very curious if they are just separated by stock TDP numbers to fit into some OEM specs.

Same ,only reviews can help me decide if the inter-chip bandwidth makes the single chip 8 core the better buy for something i game on, i think ill crunch on the 2600X as well since its better then the Intel G4400 system I have as a spare.

I am currently running on a dual core spare rig. I am not sure I have the patience for a review. I might preoder if possible.

It is missing an option.
"None (waiting for 3rd gen Threadripper)"
This. VERY curious to see if they will eliminate the 16 core entirely and if not, what will it cost for all of those beautiful Pcie 4.0 lanes.

3700X. Kicking with 2600 @ 4.1GHz now, a 8/16 chip with higher clocks would be cool.

Very unlikely. A 16core TR is going to be a "sweet-spot" CPU for AMD's line up.
Exactly. They had TR 1900X, and Intel's HEDT CPUs also start where the mainstream selection ends.

AMD CPUs rarely pull that kind of BS.
If anything these CPUs might fall in price very quickly again when Zen3 arrive, just like how Zen and Zen+ did.
I doubt AMD is slacking around when they have a chance to take more market share from Intel.

Buying a brand new MSI Tomahawk B450, wouldnt that be compatible out of the cardbox with a Ryzen 3700x? It says on the webside that bios revisions since marts this year have support for new Ryzen cpu https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK
I doubt that it would be shipped with a new 3000 ready BIOS. Remember after they (MSI and others) announced that they had BIOS ready and then AMD announced that there will no 4.0 PCEi support after all for old boards? I think that MSI and other made a new BIOS after that. If the Tomahawk has a new BIOS then it would most likely be the first one. Only one way to find out - try. The good thing with MSI is that you just put the new BIOS on a USB stick and update it on a dedicated USB slot on the rear. You don't need a old CPU to do that. Btw I have both BIOS versions for the x470 M7 AC but since I don't have a need for the 4.0 PCEi right now I will go for the newest one, I think.

My crystal ball predictions for next Threadripper as follows:

- It will be called the "4000" series, since they kind of already exhausted the 3000 naming by topping at 3950X on the mainstream.
- Entry TR 4800 will have 4 chiplets of 6 enabled cores, so 24c/48t minimum.
- Mid TR 4900 will have 4 chiplets of 8 enabled cores, so 32c/64t
- Mid+ TR 4950 same 4x8 config but higher clocks, and they will name it "The ultimate Premium Gaming and Creator CPU" or something...
- Top end TR 4970 with 8 chiplets of 6 enabled cores, 48c/96t best EPYC ROME harvest possible for AMD,
They reserve the name TR 4990 with 8x8, just in case it is ever needed...

Coming sometime early next year, after they launched ROME and saw the market evolution.
Remember, Threadripper is a dump bin for those EPYC datacenter chips that don't meet the stringent quality/power demands.

I'm the most excited about the 3950X, this could very well be my first AMD CPU and to be honest with you I'm looking forward to seeing the benchmarks and hopefully this monster of a CPU won't disappoint.

What an exciting time to be a PC enthusiast!
I have to go back 20 years to my old k6 2 when overclocking meant moving jumpers on the Mobo (I was running that sucker with a 50% overclock), or back to the old phenom x3 that had an extra core you could unlock on compatible motherboards and more often than not, it was a perfectly good core that was simply disabled for that specific sku.

It's 3rd gen threadripper, so i think they will add something into the name like 3700x, they will add something like 3000xx, or 3000tr
, or they will continue after the 3950x, 3960x, 3970x,3980, 3990 and the last 3999x hehe

Right now, I think I will consider the 3600 or the 3600X, although I could consider the 3800X (when I built my current rig, I chose a Core i3 instead of a Core i5 and I'm still kinda regretting it).

It will have to keep going for at least 3 to 5 years without any upgrades CPU-wise, so we'll see...
