Hi. I have an old AMD X3 720@3.4 GHz, but this CPU has overheating from time to time (55-60C). My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H. I would like to change my CPU, but I don't know what to buy, maybe X6 1045T or 955BE? My budget is 500 PLN (152,25$). Maybe I need to wait for Steamroller or i3 Haswell and buy new motherboard and cpu? Please help.

Make sure you flash your bios to the latest revision before upgrading your CPU, just in case.
That said, why not spend $40 and buy a better cooler... the CPU wont be holding back that GPU really...

Get a better cooler, unlock it if possible and overclock it. Depending a bit on what you're doing, if you really really need the extra cores go for an X6. If it's games the frequency is generally more important than the number of threads.

i run a 7950 alongside a Phenom II X4 955BE (2nd hand quite unused for 60$) and i rarely hit above 50c on the cpu full load with a Cooler Master TX3 Evo 2fan push pull (with Arctic cooling MX4) now i use a H60 2fan push pull the TX3 is in my mITX build
my GPU goes 63c (935/1440) but eat more W than a 7790 so as they said you shoul be fine with a PHII X3 720 (X4 720if you can unlock it)
if its for gaming over quadcore is useless (mostly)

When does it overheat? What happens when it overheats? Is the cooler seated properly?
When I played most requirements games I had 60C on CPU and BSOD on Win8. But I think my temp is too high (on idle 40C). Cooler seats properly. Maybe I should use Isopropanol to clean this cooler? I cleaned CPU and Cooler with handkerchiefs. Maybe Cooler lost his heating conductor properties?

clean the dust out and re apply paste, the old has probably dried up.
