Hey guys,
Just for fun I thought it would be interesting to see what people would choose if they had anywhere from $200-300 to spend on a CPU?
Which CPU would you choose and why?

Hey Kenny,
I appreciate the help, but I think you misunderstood this thread. I meant what would you choose if you had that much to spend on a CPU. I know what I am already getting for my 2nd rig (as seen in my sig). Thanks for the help though and all the help you have given me. I am just curious what people would choose and the reason. Figured I could learn a lil more from people's responses.

psh as if i had a buget when buying specific parts, i just go eith the best i can get without getting too overzealous, i'm a retailer and i can get alot of higher cpu's for 2-300$ due to my discount (no i don't share lol) my 4000 sandy only cost me 160$ and that's last november or so.
soo I'd say either the opteron 175 or the 4400. though honestly my next one will probably be the opteron 180, or the fx60 I'll be buying in summer and it depends on whats available for a good price, seeing as the opteron are limited it might not be there when i go to buy.

i'd get a dual core 3800+. i saw a review where a guy OC'd it and almost matched the dual 4400+ speeds. you can render video, while burning dvd, and surfing the web.
i don't understand the single core desire other than a little boost in speed for the same price or more. you could transcode dvds and play half life 2 while waiting. you might lose about 4fps for every 120fps though. a small price concidering you can't see it.

the average young human eye can see a contrasting frame at about 1 out of 60fps.
the exceptional human eye can see 1 in 120fps such as the worlds best fighter pilots. if a frame has a slight error in it 1 in 35fps or less depending on the type of error.

I'd get a 3800+ also. Nab a zalman cooler and a good mobo, and it overclocks like crazy. And like the guy before me said, its awe-inspiring to be able to play farcry or hl2, encode a dvd, and run a virus scan at the same time.
