Which Flat Panel Monitor??

Hey guys,
I was curious if anyone had any input on this monitor (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1561114&Sku=C911-1902).
It is a XGen2 monitor (never heard of them). Its pretty much between this one and a 17" Sony for just a little bit cheaper.

dont know what it would cost you in the states if you can find it, good image quality and decent response times, but it is my first lcd so cant really compare it to anything else, just to say im more than happy with it.

That one is 8ms with analog and DVI input, newegg is great.

What kind of response time should I look for since I am going to be playing games on it (8ms, 12ms, 16ms)? Are they all good for games?

The lower the better. You could probably play games at any of those response times and not notice any ghosting. For instance an 8ms monitor has a theoretical maximum of 125 fps, although in real world performance its not going to live up to the 8ms time, thats just how they measure it according to ANSI standards. But you always want to go for the lower response time.

You see the image a split second after it switches frames but im talking like a slip second. I recomend the Xerox 17 or 19 " Monitors. However, Its not very good value for money and depending where you are it can be qiute reflective the screen. It is also a little limited in its adjustments. But, It has a solid glass front that makes the screen look huge and the buttons are well placed. I am very happy!

Its not always just about the response times its almost best to go on recomendations or see it for your self. For instance, The response time could be good and the sharpness could be spot on but with out a good amount of brightnes to back it its not worth anything. Its hard to buy a monitor without seeing it first.

I definitely DONT recommend a 19in lcd. The max res is still 1280x1024-the same as a 17 in. Only it looks like crap because the pixels are stretched. If you want a nice, crisp picture, get a 17in lcd, or a 20+.

Again, the dell 2005fpw owns all.

I am not disagreeing with you Naseltzer as i am sure this is down to preference. However, I dont see any stretch pixels in my Screen. Not at all it is crystal clear.

But the picture will only be this good in its prefered res and does not really look good in anything less than 1280x1024. So i am limited really to 1 res in my case. but that is fime because i have no motive for changing.

Acer AL1916W 19" Widescreen LCD.

very good price for a wide screen monitor.. i just payed half as much again for the 20 version..

all cheaper lcd monitors use a TN panel.. pluses good fast responce times.. minuses poorer viewing angle and not as qood colour definition wise..

i like my 20 acer wide screen.. i might well have gone for the 19 inch at the cheaper price just didnt know about it..

Naseltzer, it is true that most 19" and 17" LCD's have the same resolution, 1280 x 1024. The pixels aren't stretched they're just slightly larger. The pixel size for a 17" monitor at that resolution is 0.270mm and the pixel size for a 19" monitor at that resolution is 0.294mm. That size difference is basically negligible. 0.024mm = 0.0009", thats about 1/3 the thickness of a human hair. I have a 19" LCD monitor and it looks crystal clear, not stretched as you put it.

I still disagree. I had a dell 1905fp, which is considered to be a pretty good 19in lcd. Perhaps dell just sucks (though I doubt it), but compared to the 17inchers (i have a 1705 at work), the sharpness of text just isn't there. The 17incher just looks better in my opinion. I recommend going to a shop where they have both 17s and 19s on display. Look at some text and see if you can tell the difference.

You dont want anything above 12ms for gaming, but personally I would go for a 8ms model.
