Which GTX is enough?

That's the build of Area 51 r2 that i hope can run 3 monitor gaming.

  • Intel® Core™ i7-5930K Processor (6-cores, 15MB Cache, Overclocked up to 3.9 GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
  • Windows 7 ULTIMATE
  • Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ 960 with 2GB GDDR5 each (NVIDIA SLI® Enabled)
  • Alienware™ 1500 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply
  • 16GB Quad Channel DDR4 2133MHz (4GBx4)
  • 128GB SSD 6Gb/s Main + 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s Storage
  • Slot Load Blu-ray Drive (Reads and Writes to Blu Ray/DVD/CD)
  • Intel® 7260AC + BT4.0 [802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0, Dual Band 2.4&5 GHz, 2x2
  • 4x 288-Pin DDR4 UDIMM Slots

Monitors im consider buying are three Dell S2415H ...

So should i get dual GTX970 SLI or dual 960 is enough? I cannot find proper answer. Im console gamer but sometimes i would like to play MMO on ultra details.
Maybe a single GTX980 is better than sli?

PLease help ... also if you have any good propositions/suggestions on monitors then i'm happy to hear it.
I choiced those because 618.66 $ is max i can give for 3 monitors.

""Yes i have checked http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/surround/system-requirements
surround options but it's nothing compared to actual user experience. So i'm counting on you guys.

Why and why? Any proper explanation? I heard that SLI is nothing more than problems but i never had advanced gaming set up like this. GTX980 TI is too much but Dual 960 or 970 or single 980 is something that i can afford.

Single 980ti... if you can afford it buy a second one later. :)

Why is there a 1500w power supply in the rig?

I recall one of my 980s not being enough for playable framerates on 3x 1920x1080 in Battlefield 4.

I wouldn't go 2xGTX960 2gb for SLi at a resolution at 5760x1080 pixel, i would say if u want to run all 3 screens at the same time in quality gaming u need atleast 2xGTX 970.

Single 980ti... if you can afford it buy a second one later. :)

Why is there a 1500w power supply in the rig?

Bcs Alienware (Dell) use big power supply so they are sure u get atleast some watt plus the case's Master I/O board for light and more needs power too.

1500 is a standard in area ... any objections?

As i said 980TI is too much ... all of your opinions are unfounded

@ninjad

Puma thanks for answer ... your 1st person on over 5 forms i asked that said the dual 970 over single 980

980 Ti over 970's in sli:
1. Less power consumption
2. less space required
3. less heat dumped into the case

Any more questions?

Just look in my sig. I do own 2 970's in SLI, but I were to choose a GPU setup right now, I would've gone for 980 Ti - no questions asked.

Well, just be advised that a 1500 watt PSU is way way too much for your build. Get a 600-750 watt PSU if you want to have a large cushion and put the savings towards a 980 Ti.

A couple notes to help.

1) SLI can provide some slight performance increases over a single card, however; typically a single card wins out due to SLI needing more PCI slots, larger power supply(overhead), and value(this is relative).

2) Are you gaming on all 3 monitors? That resolution may be difficult for dual 960's. Especially with just 2GB of VRAM. Typically higher resolution requires more VRAM.

3) I always suggest investing the most into the CPU and GPU. Buy the most of what you can afford.

4) Get what you want, in the end if you're happy thats all that matters :)

Problem is that Alienware uses a bit of a custom PSU for Master I/O board and case.

still 2 gpus should take it better as long as the sli profile is working correctly, so 2xGTX 970 having 4GB of ram should be oki.

If not read W1zzard's reviews of GTX 970 in Sli and GTX 980 Ti

Get a 980Ti, if you have the option to go single GPU then its better to go single GPU. This coming from the guy who has run xfire and sli pretty much since the beginning.

I just want as smooth performance as possible and spend less money then 980Ti which in my opinion is too much for me since i'm not planning on playing witcher 3 on ulta on 3 monitors.

NOTICE that Dell S2415H or BenQ LED EW2440L got 60Hz rate

Where do you live? What's the price difference between 2 970s and a 980ti?

Also, everyone has pretty much told you their opinion and you keep saying they're wrong and that you don't want to do that. So, just get your 2 960s like you wanted and be done

Single GPU is always better. Many games don't support multi-GPU setups, so the money you spend on a second card will be wasted as it sits there being unused in some games.
Also, SLI 960 is a super stupid idea. You can get vastly better performance with a single GPU and less hastle, and know that every game will utilise the single card fully.

Also 1500W is absolutely ridiculous. A 1500W PSU would run 4 GPUs. For a single processor + single GPU, the most you'd ever need is 550W. 750-800W for multi-GPU setups. Spending money on a 1500W PSU for 2 960s would be the equivalent of burning $100 for the sheer whimsy.

Where do you live because 2x970s should cost about the same as a 980 Ti.

This. 2 x 970 here costs ~£500. 1 x 980 ti costs ~£500.

Wrong is that everyone is too much hyped on 980Ti or they are completely hardcore gamers.

And well i'm sorry 980TI is only a bit more expensive than dual 970.

Dell aren't the only people who sell computer parts in the world. Buying Alienware is a poor choice. It costs about 1.5x the actual worth of the components. You're better off doing a self-build.

If you're incapable of doing a self-build, by all means buy a pre-built machine. But don't come to our tech forums asking for advice and then tell everyone their advice is wrong. It's a sure way of getting zero help in future.

Alienware is my way to go ... I'm not very into hardcore PC gaming ... any fps without noticeable lags are great for me. And most commons MMOs aren't very demanding.
I know i could save a bit of money but its the 1st and last time in my life where want to buy Alienware ...

Every of your advice is helpful don't get me wrong ... i can't compare your opinions with stiff hardware specs.

Judging by the price, a system with a Titan X is cheaper than the one with two 970's which makes zero sense.

Edit: nevermind.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i go with the flow

my recommendation single 980 or 980Ti too
the 980 is plenty for anything (and i play a lot of MMO alongside of my solo games) and if you can afford a 980 instead of the Ti variant, then indeed you will not be disappointed. i am not ... my system can handle anything at max settings... thanks to my 1080p behavior (4k ... eh? not for now, maybe later, atm 1080 or 1440 is good enough )

edit .. oh 3 monitor ... bah ... 980Ti minimum or dual 970 aherm ... more pixel : imminent doom ... or not ... some people here didn't get the "stutter of death" after passing the 3,5gb limit
another thing that i can't understand ... (oh well i can understand 3 monitor on a flight or space sim setup tho )

as for Alienware ... well overpriced is the word and the only thing from them that did impress me is my Alpha i have (tho i have upgraded it myself instead of buying option from them ... result: paying way less than if i did )

Do it have to be Alienware? and if u ain't keen about building ur own mby look at Overclockers.co.uk they have a Gaming with Skylake i7, 8gb memory and GTX 980Ti with under

Link: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tita...k-4.5ghz-overclocked-gaming-pc-fs-112-og.html

I have the money but im not convinced about TI .... why to buy car when you can drive to school by bicycle.

My bad its just a typo with this dual ... doing 10 things at same time.

So in conclusion to what you said.

960 is poor as fu/ dont bother looking at it
dual 970 is slightly lower than single 980Ti in almost same price
And 3 monitor gaming/working space (im web and graphic designer) require at least 980Ti for smooth work

Im right?
