If you want to keep arguing over the 980TI and are so dent on the 970SLI, then just get a normal 980. The extra heat from an SLI config and the issues it brings in games isn't worth it in your case. I'm running a 780 SLI (which is almost exactly the same as your 970 setup) on three monitors. I'll run out of vram before GPU power, and the 970s only have .5gb more which is worthless. The 980 is a full 4gb card and will work within your needs.

I have the money but im not convinced about TI
Why? This graph is the very reason why you should consider a 980 Ti. There simply is less that can go wrong while still having the same kind of performance. Just about every aftermarket 980 Ti is going to have similar results.

OP a few things.

You said in your opening post that you are a console gamer. What you are accustomed to is loading any game and it just works without issues. You may have some issues running SLI and not want to be bothered by it. A SLI profile in drivers for the game you want to play gives the best performance but they don't always come out so fast and sometimes not at all if a game isn't popular.

Another thing you said in your opening post is that you want to play on ultra settings on 3 monitors. You are no doubt going to run into VRAM issues with the two 970s in SLI in the future (unless DX12 in SFR works as promised) and as you said you don't want to buy another PC anytime soon so I would go with a single 980 Ti.

If Alienware is forcing you to take a 1500 watt PSU then they are ripping you off. Go to a local computer repair shop and get an estimate for a build with warranty with what you want and there are plenty of people here that can put together a list of components for a sensible build with a 980 Ti for you if you want.

I give up. Buy whatever you obviously are not listening. The 980Ti is a better choice for every single aspect you asked for than a pair if 970's, but since you choose to ignore advice enjoy driver bugs, games that don't support sli and having more heat produced for the same performance with the same initial start up price. Sweet sounds great.

Oh and the asus tower with the 980Ti is cheaper. Just a heads up Alienware isn't the only gaming PC manufacturer in the world. In fact the Acer predator is cheaper as is both cyberpower and ibuypower.

I'll just add my little bit (to the already excellent advice given): you should always try for a single GPU solution, especially if you are new to PC gaming, design, etc. Simply put, this means less hassle for you...

Also... Some MMO's benefit more from actually being on a SSD, for faster map loading times (dependant upon the MMO in question)...

Alienware is in the business of flogging you cr*p you don't need, overkill in a big ugly monster heater that makes far too much noise. There are lots of forums / threads around the internet discussing issues with CFX/SLi problems...

At 1st i was consider buying 2 monitors instead of 3 just for work purposes ... but having a bezel right between my eyes when want to take a break and play Starfall for example ... was something that i cannot accept.
So everyone here is trying to convince me to 980 over Ti ... the question is ... do i need that power?

And @65K you're right i overdid with that ultra ... high res also can be great.

fact of the day: Internet honestly hates alienware products by all means.

THANKS! I UNDERSTAND that SLI is i pain in ass and most of the times unsupported. That's why i was suspicious and asking you. I never run dual GPU that's why i ask (s!it im repeating myself too many times.)

AND YES i do understand that 980Ti is far superior than SLI build but does it mean that 980 was a mistake? Only Toothless said something good about it. And performance tests are also good ... 66% vs 82% is enough (whatever it means)

Many YT videos show SINGLE 970 running triple monitors (exact same cheap ones that i want buy)

With three monitors? You'll want the 980TI. 780SLI and 970SLI run about the same as the single 980TI and trust me, it's worth the money.

I have the money but im not convinced about TI .... why to buy car when you can drive to school by bicycle.

My bad its just a typo with this dual ... doing 10 things at same time.

So in conclusion to what you said.

960 is poor as fu/ dont bother looking at it
dual 970 is slightly lower than single 980Ti in almost same price
And 3 monitor gaming/working space (im web and graphic designer) require at least 980Ti for smooth work

Im right?
Finally, a conclusion that all been waiting for! :D

@Aeit let me let you in on something.

I'm running 5 monitors with my current specs (I'm sure you can find the "System Specs" thing right?)
3 on my GPUs, 2 on my onboard graphics.

I'm able to play 3 games, watch a video or research something, and have Skype or something else up at the same time. (Games would be Banished, Warframe, and a MMORPG. Sometimes BF4 could be in the mix or Shadow of Mordor. GPU intensive games.)

I can switch my three 1080p monitors to surround and play across all three while working on other projects at the same time with no issues. This again is coming from a rig that can pull the same amount of power as a 980TI but since I'm running SLI, I get a few issues here and there.

A 980TI can do it, you just need to trust us.

I just need to spend money LoL
Would be happy if single 980 could be as good
I ran my games at high/ultra, so given the gap a 980 would be good for high, and then you can get a second down the road if needed. You get your SLI and a beefy setup for surround.

Tell ya what. When I get off work I'll bench some games on surround for you if you'd like. I'll bench programs and whatever else I can get my hands on at your request to prove why the 980TI is better.

Why not just get one good ultrawide monitor instead of three cheap 1080p displays? Three monitor gaming is a pain in the butt if you are coming over from the console world.

Yes I read that but I still think an ultra wide is more practical considering the GPU horsepower needed to drive 3 displays.

This whole thread is confusing to me though. is the OP located in a place that Alienware is the only option?

Stop bullying alienware ... it has nothing to do with my money nor monitor setup.

I also was thinking about 34" curved ultrawide but it's a waste of money ...
1) good one cost more than 3 or even 4 24"
2) it's nonfunctional for work or any multi tasking
3) ???
4) case closed let's back to gtx discussion

Let me back up my reasoning.

I ran 970 SLI, I currently have 980 SLI. for multi monitor setups SLI is a pain in the butt. Switching in and out of fullscreen programs causes the screens to go blank and it takes the drivers a while to sort everything out. Updating drivers is a disaster from time to time. Also surround gaming with SLI enabled is going to be a complete mixed bag in terms of support and optimization from game to game.

The fastest single card setup is the best option for a multi-display setup in terms of overall stability and performance.

And I will trash talk Alienware all I want, there are alternatives that are better than what that company offers.

Off topic I know, but dayum Toothless... glad to see that PSU I sold you is driving some kinda awesome. I only wish I had that many monitors...

On Topic: Alienware is fine if you don't wanna mess with hardware stuff. It just works in most ciscumstances (software issues like SLI compatability not withstanding). It IS expensive, but heck, it's his money. I'd let him decide that part, and focus more on the hardware choices guys, as it's clear his minds made up anyhow.

but with that argument are you saying youv either used a single 980 ti or are using as much gpu power as the op is trying to use, either way the point is the 980 ti is a wayy better choice in almost every way
