Which HD4k are you grabbin?

Whenever it comes out. I have a 2900pro flashed to XT atm, but I think whenever it comes out il be getting the single 4870 considering how it looks. I could never think to afford a X2 under normal circumstances, but I when I bought this motherboard I decided not to get one with a second PCI-E 16x slot because I thought the crossfire and SLI stuff was going to be a "fad"(I cant believe I made that gamble).

Posting this thread for all the ati fanbois like me! When they come out, which one looks right for you?

I would get whatever card takes the place of the 3850(4850 i guess?) unless next level model (4870 i guess?) was really worth getting over a 4850. A couple of those in CFX would be very nice.

if the 4850/4870 are considerably faster than nvidia's current lineup then I will get a 4850 and stick it in hybrid crossfire with my current card, if not then I am going to wait for the Geforce X series

since i already got a 3870 when it was released (paid $240), i probably won't ever own a 4870 :-/

nice thing is, if ATI/AMD really does the price cuts as large as people have been saying, i will be most likely pick up another 3870 for CHEAP and crossfire the two.

The 4850 seems the sweet spot to me if it's not much slower than the 4870.

I think the technology was probably looked at while the 3870x2 was been made so i shouldnt think it will be too long but they release technology slowly anyway its how they make money.

only rumor I've heard so far is 2nd half of 08. Not sure what will be the first release . . . ATI doesn't typically release like nVidia, meaning, I doubt we'll see their "ass-kicker" card as the first release.


Although, they done quite the opposite with the HD2000 and HD3000 series, so, many the 4870x2 or the 4870 will be the first release . . .

They'll probably release the 4870 first, then the 4850 along with the X2, then all the little crappy ones. I would be surprized if the X2 came out first.

If they fetch out the 4870 with gddr5 followed by the 4870x2 with gddr4 then few months on a 4870x2 with gddr5 its alot to take into consideration

Will they dissable powerplay? Its our moaning about fan noise i think that may have played a part in the introduction of it.
To have a card running at full 3d all the time would require more noise and faster fan rpm.

the 3870x2 does work great at 50% rpm

Really good point there W1zz. The product spec isn't even out yet. Even if they do, we still have to wait to see the real world game test, not just based on a 3Dmark score.

Probably for less money too thats the best bit.

If things go the way the 3870 is going with the price drops a 4870 would be a good investment for adding x-fire later.

Dreaming is great, but the only thing the HD3k had over the HD2k was power consumption. They need to bring back the monster that the 1gb 2900xt was w/o the sick price. A 1gb DDR4 512bit 4870 would be sick. Try that for dreaming.
