which HDD should i get?

And they (samsungs) run cool. Maxtors that I've had have been fairly hot in the 40-50C range. Both my Samsungs are under 30C. Don't know about those, maybe they are better.

as i mentioned before the only problem i have had with maxtor is with this 80gb sata drive im using, it hates being partitioned, think my mind is made up, WD it is

Man please I'm not trying to hear this bs about less parts. And I'm not gonna go there about cars. And lastly like it doesn't matter because it's just an RMA for the hdd. And I'm like I'm not bringing up cars because an analogy for that is lame seeing being that I hate electric cars anyways even if it is for the environment and all that jazz...

Not trying to get into a flame war, but thats one of the most ignorant responses I've seen in the 3 years I've been on TPU. Technology is all about efficiency, so disregarding that is quite unreasonable. It doesn't matter if you like electric cars or not, they are more efficient output vs input. If you know squat about tech and how it works and changes, you know that you want the maximum efficiency yields because for everyone it yields greater ROI. And all investors and consumers are after the highest ROI possible therefore, any tech business who wants to make money will be striving toward greater operating efficiency in every part of their business that is feasible including making improvements on the products.

Go with whichever drive has better user reviews and less platters.

Well Western digital... obviously they have good reviews.... maxtor is fine, i like them had a couple of drives fail a long time back, maxtor don't run in thier 50's though, not what i've ever seen or heard off, the most mine has gone upto on a really hot day with no cooling is 47 degrees - even reaches them temps without cooling on a normal day, The maxtor drive i belive has less platters, just like the one im using... but that doesnt interest me, im pretty sure im guna settle for the WD, the drive will be holding a lot of data what will be none recoverable one put on the drive.
