it seems that the 4890 is the better pick due to the increased ram... but hey I'm not sure;)

I ask asked the same question and did a lot of research. I then changed from nVidia the 4890 and got to say my gaming has become so much smoother.

Photoshop I still prefer the nVidia but I am really impressed with the 4890

+1 on the 4890s, they are da bomb. They don't ask about high AA and AF settings, they just do it.

GTX275 on my vote. I'm not an nV fanboy and I have owned radeon 4800 series cards... too many. I had a 4870x2 and I won a GTX260 in an online contest. The moment I got the 260 I noticed that it could do what my 4870x2 could do at my resolution with a few less frames. Then I overclocked it and it ran better than my 4870x2. In fact the GTX260 is the card I'm most impressed with out of this generation, and a close second is the GTX295. The only reason I find the 295 to be "less" of a card is because it is a dual GPU card and I prefer single card. The GTX275s seem to be more powerful per MHz than the GTX260. I've seen a number of these 275 cards OC like the GTX260 192s which is upwards of 800MHz(at the very best) on the core, and 1600MHz+ on the shader cores. It makes a huge difference when the shaders get to be that fast. For gaming I would not go team red for this generation, but for anything involving picture editing/computer art I wouldn't mind owning a 4770(best use of their current technology).

ahh, I change my mind, the 275 is the better pick....

Wouldnt say that for 100% because if you use AA & AF then the situation could be reversed

there are loads of benchmarks as far as i seen benchmarks in different sites shows different results,in some better are nvidia in some radeon. So tests are not the reason for me i could choose the vcard.

The gaming benchmarks aren't just simple tests. They are a way to accurately show what a graphics card will do in real world use.

yes but i seen results in internet that the same vcards are better and weaker than other same vcards. If u know what i mean mate :)
i think the reason why its so,because of test rig they use in different sites in internets.because some vcards shows better results with different mb or cpus.

I think the 4890 takes the smallest hit from aa/af afaik. The last few cards i have had have been ati,but only because they were the best for my money.

I will basically have upto £170 inc vat+del and these two seem to be pretty cheap. If anyone can find anything better for my budget feel free.

The 275 comes out better in most benches i have read but i think you cant go wrong with either card !

Why not wait for the dx 11 cards that are coming soon ?

my vote is on the GTX275, having owned 4 GTX260's and a GTX295, I gotta say GT200 kicks some serious tail.

At my local stores however, the GTX260 core 216 is better value for money, but not by much.

In a state of flux...
Keep your 4870, sell your 520w Corsair PSU and buy a 750 or 850w Corsair..then when the price drops on the 4890's in a month or so (maybe a little longer) pick one up for some Crossfire action with its 4870 brother. :)

Seems like the most logical way to me.

I'd get whichever one is cheaper. I own a GTX 275 and I can't say it's significantly faster than my gtx 260 216sp (1920x1200 resolution)
