I believe the GTX 295 is slightly faster in games that support SLI, however, in games where SLI is not supported the 5870 is faster. I would go for the GTX 295 for it's folding performance (~16k PPD), but the 5870 probably makes more sense (runs cooler, faster in games that don't support SLI, uses less power)
what kind of question is that??? lol
depends on what your using it for straight up gaming id go 5870 90% of the 295s perfomance and at half the wattage and as far as folding goes if a 5870 can give 4500+ pts using just 320 shaders imagine the folding power if all 1600 shaders were usable but we have to wait to truly see the answer that when gpu client 3 is released
HD 5970 is the fastest
GTX 295 not fastest
HD 5870 little slower than GTX 295 but will be faster in games that DO not work with with SLI so basicly 5870 is better
games with good sli support the gtx295 would probly be a bit better but the 5870 is a single card so its automatically better because its better in everything else and is almost as good in sli games
ygpm. I'm not trying to start any serious arguments here.
go with HD5870 man!
lol i would give up my 295 for a 5870 lol
yeah 5870 for the win
better for? what do u want the card for?
Dx11, eyefinity, low power especially at idle and so much more, 5870 ftw! But... They are pretty hard to get right now.
I agree with everything, everyone else says... beep.
Sorry I've been watching too much Futurama lately.
But seriously I've seen a few games where the 295 wins by a few FPS and I've seen a few games where the 5870 wins by a few FPS. When they are that close in performance I say "who cares!"
The ATi has eyefinity (can run 3 monitors simultaneously), lower power draw and DX11 support.
I know what I would buy!
Personally, I would go for 5870, DX11 and all but everybody knows that both of them are overkill cards, so there is not much difference between the two.
Most definitely the 5870, it is superior in all aspects.(newer technology, less power draw, performance, DX11...)
Is this a joke ?
Member with title staff I would assume that knows ways to find wizz reviews.
if you can xfire you can get 2x5770 and it performs as good as 5870.. sometimes better and it's cheaper. only 19w more power at load than 5870.
We must have been reading different reviews in all the ones I have read it shows that the GTX295 across the board is between 10 and 25% faster, obviously as a single GPU solution, taking into account costs, energy and heat, the 5870 is the better option in my opinion, however the OP owns GTX295's in SLi already, so I am guessing that he is considering whether there is true "upgrade" potential there, IMO there isnt unless he can sell his 2 GTX295's and buy 2 HD5870's and have enough change to buy me one too!
I suppose to be fair, he asks "which is better", not "which is faster" so yes, the HD5870 is better, but as far as I can see...... it's slower at most things, some by a considerable margin, ohhhh and most "recent" games are SLi compatible (if not all), maybe not until the next driver release though.
if you plan to upgrade now is the time to get top dollar on those 295's.
If he already owns 2 beasts like that, I doubt he'll go for the 2 5770's. Btw, how does yours perform in games?
yeah but what im saying is.. he can get 2 5770s right now for about $330. they will perform as good if not better than a 5870... and he will possibly have a couple hundred bucks left over.
mind idles at 35c and maxes at 54 c. dirt 2, mw2, left 4 dead 2 all play flawless. I know they are not heavy caliber games.. but with all details maxed out it does look great.
I have another 5770 on the way.. after seeing how well the 5770 does and several 5770 xfire reviews I couldn't resist.
why no videos of your rig ?
i couldnt get boobies and a fat ass on it.
I would go for the hd5870, it doesn't lag behind the gtx295 very much, if at all, in non nvidia related games, but also doesn't have to deal with multi gpu problems. It has dx11 and can overclock like crazy (currently running at 1010MHz core/1300MHz memory, and at those clocks, it easily beats the gtx 295 in everything i've played in terms of matching up the frame rates to the gtx 295 review scores)
