@theoneandonlymrk - Still think RDNA 2 is going to beat Ampere performance wise like you said several weeks ago?

AMD's Logan should be .... "AMD is gonna". Not that Im not rooting for AMD to score another win like they did with the 5600XT, but look at the last 7 years ....

The 290 / 290X is gonna change everything .... other than bringing 95C GPU temps, it didn't. Forget the 780 Ti, the 780 was faster when both cards overclocked.
Mantle is gonna change everything ... it didn't
HBM is gonna change everything ... it didn't
The 480 is gonna change everything ... it kinda did,\the 6 pin models scared everybody
Fury is gonna change everything ... it didn't
Vega is gonna change everything ... it didn't
Last generation AMD dropped the price of their cards $50 on "release day" ! Wow, that certainly was a new experience.

I'm tired of the "AMD is gonna" mantra ... they're like the alcoholic uncle or the cheating spouse who says "**This time** it's gonna be different". And while hopes are up slightly after seeing the 5600XT compete with the faster 2060 at a lower price, I don't see AMD competing with nVidia's 3060, 3070 and 3080. I'd like to see it ... competition serves consumer interests, but hopes have been dashed too many time over the last 7 years. AMD is has 2 cards in the top 20 cards in use today, the 570 / 580 and they are 3 years old. The only current gen card in the top 25 is the 5700XT at 25th. Nvidia has has nine in the top 25. The ridiculously priced 2080 Ti has more cards in use than the 5700 XT. Innovation costs money and nvidia has more of it cause they outselling AMD 4.5 to 1, but they also enjoy higher margins.

So not getting my hopes up here .... Been There, Done That, and the disappointment still looms .... don't wann do it any more. At this point, I'm resigned to perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised.

So im not selling my 2080 Ti and i advice to all of you who bought a 20XX card to not rush to sell it !!!

You can keep it and wait for the 4000 or who knows graphics cards from nvidia.

I am a afraid that the situation as always this will become worst, because an item sold as used with out warranty this will instantly lost 50% of it value.
Best consumer defense plan, this is keeping the card for ten years no matter of what Nvidia will release ( Odysseus & the Sirens ).

Realistically the 3070, but not surprised people are [insert skeleton waiting for RDNA2 meme].

Personally i am interested in the 3070, will see if they stay available long enough. Not to sure about waiting for RDNA2 but nVidia have reacted in a big way which makes me think they know some thing we don't.

All so the point i am happy with 1080P so it should be more than enough for some time.

And waiting for a AMD reaction

Why are you debating that aimed at me.

Again little to do with the bit I said just some fanciful tangential argument implying I'm team f#£@&Ng Red, I am team me and my wallet.
And personally I am done paying attention to such slanted arguments.
Respectfully your opinion is your own , I have plenty to say for and against both GPU suppliers, my 2060 has been a pain in the ass at time's, so has my vega64, I'm due new too, so this is all relevant to me ,but Nvidia are known for lofty claims too so without reviews I'll hold my tone a while.
And I'm happy to skip this generation ,very happy to skip.

Course I do:p

I think the full story is yet untold but if the paid presentations and Pr release so far, has you sold on it I would understand, it's a impressive release lineup.
FWIW, I believe it is perfectly possible for AMD to catch up with the 3090 if they do what they said, that is Navi 2x. Double the die size, fix the energy consumption, improve the IPC a bit, should be enough for them to be about 40% better than the 2080Ti, They are using a better node than Nvidia and it is their second iteration on 7nm. On the other hand, they said they are after similar progressive improvements, the way they did with Ryzen, so this suggests they are after efficiency and solid price/performance/margin, not necessarily after the crown. So if they come with a 550sq mm die, they have a decent shot, if their top will be 400sq mm, they have no shot.
Will there be an actually big Navi this time? There are no solid leaks and I'm not into crystal balls, but in any case, I think there'll a lot of debates here in the next months.

I believe there is video that goes something like thisand

At AMD where aiming for the high end this time the 5700 xt give great preference at 1440p now where aiming at the high end at 4k (?at 60fps?)

nvidia well that's no longer the high end, because we just made a 8k 60fps card = rtx 3090

If I where AMD I would want to make rdna 3/4 be able to do 16k at 240fps, ah but that would be years from now for a screen like that. Ah what a dream.

More like wait for RDNA 3, AMD would rather use their 7nm wafers for Ryzen 3rd gen than fight with Nvidia and lose money...

RDNA2 should be able to outperform 3070. Explains those ti leaks. More memory and more cuda unlocked to battle that, with the regular 3070 shifting down in price a little.
Well, hopefully anyway. :)

Several of Nvidia's claims and certain numbers are highly dubious. This was a marketing show like all the rest to provoke awe but I'm too long in the tooth to fall for it.

RDNA2 will be strong competition for the 3080 according to sources and common sense.

for a 2070 user with only 7.5TFLOPS, 30 TFLOPS 3080 looks insane. if it translates to 4x more performance.

Lol.

Ampere flops are not 1:1 with Turing, which is ahead.

Unless AMD discover some sort of alien technology I don't know how they could scale 5700XT to 200%, improve efficiency by 50%, includes Ray Tracing cores, use 512bit bus memory controller with 16GB GDDR6 and able to make a profit at 600-700usd price point.
My guess RDNA2 would be 5700XT successor, a 320bit 12GB GDDR6 GPU priced at 400usd that is a little slower than 3070.

1. No reviews so nothing to get excited yet
And it looks quite exciting

2. Let the peeps who need to be the 1st on their block with the new shiny thing eat up the initial premium priced cards. Smart folks will wait for supply and demnd to equalize and prices to settle down
Yeah 2080Ti price was rock solid for its life span.
View attachment 167483

3. The folks above pay more to get less (1st stepping cards) / immature BIOSs, drivers. Always wait till the silicon improves with later steppings.

Wonder where you get that idea from? Any proof specifically for the silicon part? I mean yeah for AMD GPU the driver takes time to become usable. For Nvidia cards it is basically Plug and Play from day 1.

4. Maybe AMD will get close enough to affect nVidia pricing. Will we see a bunch of losers like Radeon VII or a competitive product like the 5600 XT

I won't count Big Navi out just yet. 80CU Navi21 may pack a punch.

5. As for pricing, the 3080 card is cheap. In 2017, Hot Hardware compared the inflation adjusted (2017 dollars) pricing of nVidia's top consumer cards and found that they averaged $700 going all the way back to the year 2000. $699 is 2020 dollars is $660.38 in 2017 dollars .. which, in the US, includes both pandemic related and tariff impacts.

Ampere seems to be a REALLY good gen. I can't think of much negative points now.

Jeez. Wait for reviews, or do you buy products based on the quality of the marketing show reveal? Ridiculous.

Navi 10 is 40 Cu, 250sq mm on TSMC plain 7nm. 80 CU on 7nm EUV should be 450sq mm. Do you think that impossible?
AMD engineers implemented 2 types of RT for console APU's coming out this fall. They aren't able to do that for their own GPU? Do you imagine AMD engineers just took a 2-year vacation after designing Navi10?

They don't need to 'scale 5700XT to 200%' as 5700XT is RDNA1, the old generation, with lower IPC, the 6900XT (3080 competitor) is RDNA2.

RDNA2 is also on enhanced 7nm node compared to 5700XT.

There was no tickbox for the 3060, but that's the one I want - I'm one of those non-millionaires that nVidia doesn't seem to think exists.

Serious question.... when has a GPU ever doubled its performance from one generation to the next? And note, for AMD, this they have a minor node tweak (not a smaller process, note) and new arch. We haven't seen this from a node shrink and new arch ever, right? What makes you think, so confidently that you call it common sense, that it will be close (10% or so)?
They don't need to 'scale 5700XT to 200%' as 5700XT is RDNA1, the old generation, with lower IPC, the 6900XT (3080 competitor) is RDNA2.

They still need to double performance to reach a 3080. I hope they can as much as the next guy, but I'm also not holding my breath either.

I wonder if this will cause AMD to raise clocks and burn a bit of that headroom they may have gained with the node tweak and new arch... only time will tell, but AMD has a steep hill to climb to even be competitive (performance) against the 3080.

Serious question.... when has a GPU ever doubled its performance from one generation to the next?
Since this is a serious question, the idea here is not about doubling the performance at the same die size, but rather of increasing the size of the die.
Navi 10 is 250 sq mm, while AMD had most of past top dies between 350-600 sq mm.
They can do that easily, the only question is if it's part of their strategy.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

Right. I understand what they have to do, however, I just don't think they will do it. At that point, they'll likely lose the value proposition and power efficiencies potentially, depending on yields and clocks they need. It isn't common sense and sources are bullshit is part of my point.

But yeah, no way am I holding my breath for a 100%(2x) performance increase... surprise me AMD. Make me look like a fool!!! :)

We know that TSMC yields are super great at 7nm. We know from sources, but also because of the consoles and of the CPU's.

At that point I do not care of screws and bolts and pairs of pliers.
Just name the amazing 3D game that it worth be played with an 1500 Euro graphic card ... and this it can made my brain-cells explode due the amazing graphics and game play.
