In terms of 4870 v 5770, performance is very similar, so I would get the 5770 (dx 11, lower power consumption). Some of that would come down to price though, how much more is the 5770 where you are.

As to 4890 and 275, both are excellent, price would again dictate for me which to get.

One other factor to check out is are there specific games you play that either the nvidia or ati card run better at? Check the tpu reviews for both cards, as some games are just better on one card or the other.

The only problem I have with the 5770 is that, for the money you spend on it, all you get is DX11 support, and you do NOT get [significant] performance gains over the 4870 or GTX260. So for me it's 4890/GTX275 FTW, or save up and go all the way with a 5850.

*On topic.

Out of the cards listed, I would go with the 5770 but you should really try to stretch it a little and go for a 5850. The shortages of cards should be ending very soon. It's just not worth it to buy a new "old" card when it's newer replacement is about to be available. Unless it's very inexpensive of course. I suppose it's a matter of what is important. Money, or gaming entertainment with a bit of hardware longevity.

for similar money, you get similar performance, but cooler running and with less power draw.

The power savings (especially at idle) are a big deal.

The 4890 is a better choice than a bottom end 5700 series card.

The prices have dropped enough of them to make them a good deal, and the ram is 256 bits.

I'm using 2 XFX 4890s now, and they're great.
