hi folks

as soon as they are available, I intend to build a new system around a Q9450 and a P35 motherboard (probably an Asus P5KC). The one thing Im not yet sure about is what RAM to go for.

The board will take DDR3 but Im not prepared to pay that price for it yet - I like the idea of having an upgrade path when it comes down in price though. On that basis, I was thinking about 4GB of PC2-6400, as the prices seem very favorable at the moment.

Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB) £76

or should I be considering something a bit faster

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX £117

I remember when the 1066Mhz Core 2 Duos came out there was a consensus that having RAM which was synchronous with the FSB made it run better. Is this the case for the 1333Mhz chips to then? Would PC2-5300 be reasonable choice? Or should I buy as fast as I can afford.

I feel unloved :(

Get the cheaper Corsairs. I've always loved Corsair but the OCZ'ds are more OCable.

Hey Evill Bill waz up!
I was about to build a rig around the Q9450 but since they got held back I could'nt wait any longer :p So I bought a Q6600 instead. I was about to buy 4gb OCZ HPC Reapers 2x2gig PC6400 800Mhz but I could'nt because they went out of stock over here :( I just bought 2gigs of Crucial BallistiX instead...cant wait to get stuck in :D

If I were you...perhaps the OCZ RAM would be a better choice.
Good luck with ya sexy build!
