NVIDIA's new flagship is out, and it's a pretty impressive piece of technology. What impressed you the most about these new cards?

Easily the software integration depth of RTX and other AI/tensor features. The leveraging of the hardware in not just the nvidia ecosystem but in metaverse etc, consistent workflow. Huge. Finally seems RTX is grown up and applying the tech in ways greater than just better gaming visuals. Running any old game through RTX remix is also insane, which will be absolutely revolutionary for modders - upscaling and adding new lighting will increase old games immensely, and be a real boon to the modding community.

Love to see Skyrim SE with RTX and AI enhanced textures.

The fact the FE card runs cool and quiet, using less power on average than the 3090ti while gaming is also very impressive. I'd expect this to change with faster CPUs and monitors though, as the 4090 can stretch it's legs. Efficiency is nice to see however.

Really hoping AMD/Intel start bringing more than just raster/RTRT performance in games to the table, or NVIDIA will win the standards war even more so than it already is.

I guess there's some hope with Intel's oneAPI and AMD's opensource stuff, but the content and development maturity doesn't seem to be there.

The best feature of it is that it's already obsolete. Hopper is already on new arch, better process node, does ray tracing 3 times fasters and many things faster and by big margins. H100 already beats RTX 4090 by huge market and yet media is now saying that RTX 4090 is "mindblowing" and basically a beast. I gotta say, well played nVidia.

But for real, where is Linus video about H100? I thought that his channel was about high end stuff, not already obsolete tech.

It may last way longer than that, especially if you don't care about ray tracing.

Four year GPU upgrade cycle is good. Not like it's going in the bin, just that it's time to update.

So where is it going then? You are going to end up with quite a bit of older GPUs and "secondary" computers that way. If you bring them to recyclers, then it's not goign to end up in bing, it's going to end up burned or here:

Or equivalent of there. And while 4 years seems like quite a bit of time, it's just two gens and improvement s from each gen got smaller and smaller at same price, also cheap cards are now overpowered for modest goals (RTX 3050 is way above meeting 1080 Ultra 60 fps target and does 1440p high 60 fps comfortably), meanwhile expensive cards are really weak at their goals (1440p ultra with RT, usually end up running at less than 120 fps on RTX 3090 or 4k ultra + rt, ends up not reaching 60 fps without DLSS with RTX 3090). So even if you had GTX 1080 Ti and played at 1440p with 60 fps goal, it still wouldn't be a great time or even a time to upgrade. You most likely could skip RTX 4xxx gen, the nskip RTX 5xxx gen while lowering game settigns and only then upgrading. Your 3080 Ti will last longer than that.

You seem to be making quite a few assumptions. You are of course aware that the second hand market exists, and that people have friends who share hobbies?

The energy efficiency is the most impressive, despite the high consumption it is extremely performant. However, I am concerned for the trend of feature gating Ampere at this early a stage.

I don't like DLSS or FSR and I heavily prefer a native image whenever possible, and thus this frame generation thing is completely passable to me - but are they honestly trying to tell us RTX 3090 owners that an AD104-based chip such as their canceled 4080 12GB can run DLSS 3 and our cards can not?

It wouldn't be the first time Nvidia flat out lies about hardware compatibility in New features they develop (eg. RTX Voice), I just don't trust them.

Both Ampere and Turing have the required hardware features, no matter what their marketing says, no one is demanding Ada performance out of the them but to flat out disable a feature to up sell a new generation of hardware is consumerism of the sort I'm not willing to partake in.

Perhaps, but 1440p at medium-high and 60 fps imo is decent. Perhaps you are into competitive, then 1440p at more frames would be nice, but not necessary. It's your cash, if you find it reasonable to buy computer HW so often, who I am to to say no?

Missing poll options:
  • NVIDIA's greed. RTX 4080 4070/4060 Ti 12GB at ... $900? Like really?!
  • NVIDIA's shenanigans (RTX 4080 16GB should have been called at best 4070 in terms of die-size/performance vs previous generations, the 12GB version should have been at best 4060 Ti).
  • Insane power consumption (tests have shown that 4090 RTX at ~320W loses ~2-5% of performance - it's needlessly overclocked), ridiculous weight and frail power connector.
  • DLSS 3.0 fiasco: should have never been called "DLSS" in the first place as it's a completely different algorithm. Substantially increased latency. Quite terrible artefacts.
  • RTX 4070 12GB "unlaunch".
Flak aside I voted RTX performance. I strongly believe in the feature/future. Everything else is secondary.

Where is the 6th option, nothing has impressed me about the 4090.

Because at £1600 its a pointless premise thats out of reach of most players either because they dont have £1600 to spend or because one what planet can you justfy that amount of money that would get you a whole computer, a car, a motorcycle or in my case a complete set of motorcycle gear (crash helmet, gore-tex gloves, boots, jacket and trousers). And and I havent even got started on the side costs of possibly needing a new PSU (transient power spikes) or a bigger case for better airflow. At this point total upgrade cost are more like £2000-£2200

I recently upgraded my 3070 to a 3080-12GB and every time I see some benchmarks of late, my card will still let me play any game on my gsync-compatible 34" smooth enough that I never notice a an issue. For example in CP2077 with tweaked gfx settings (no RT. Its 'rendered' pointless when fake reflections are good enough) and DLSS set to Auto I am seeing an average of over 130fps. This card for the most part matches or is close enough to the 4080-12gb, sorry soon to be 4070 that I may actually give nVidia a mis this time round. Now that AMD have gottent thier drivers in order, I think I will wait and see what they bring to the table in the RX 7000 series.

I am most impressed with the performance and temps under load, and least impressed by the price. But from a technology perspective, the card is impressive, you have to give it to nVidia. 60-80% faster than a 3090 TI in 4K? Consuming less power? Did not see that coming at all. TSMC is doing good things. Looking forward to 3nm.

What.... DLSS3.... what a bunch of........... DLSS2 is cool but 3 is just......... ........ . . . . . ........ F...... And that is THAT :D

I have selected Energy Efficiency, Derb8auer did some testing with 60% and 70% TDP that was really impressive BTW

RT performance is also OK impressive i think.

Regarding Recycling and Waste, we have in my house hold a GTX 970 still going strong.. and that will go on the secondhand market when i get my 4090/RDNA3 card. Yes we need to think about waste, but regarding computer parts in the DIY segment i am sure that you will see non of that in a dump like that unless it is broken or 10 years+ old. (i still have my old 6950 and my sons GTX 660 in a box as spare if i need one to test with) plus a 6600 GT and yea ALOT of old cards but that i more for the fun of it :=)

Impressive L2 cache. 4080 is only 12 mb short of L2 and takes a serious hit in 4K. Well done nvidia, now the only true 4K is 4090. And power efficiency too, perf is more than double per watt.

Given the fact most big Studio's actually like the money from remaking game's doesn't anyone else see a bit of an issue with Remix.

I can see some game studios Not being happy with it.

To the other 109 peeps who voted energy efficientcy, I expected the 4090 to be more like the rumors saying you'd need a new 1000+ ATX 3.0 watt power supply, I didn't expect it to be the worlds most efficient GPU and to run at 58c. That's just dope. The 8k performance with DLSS is fantastic for gaming in general, it opens new doors for FSR and XSS.
Everything else, meh.

Underdog here, but I like the efficiency. Compared to even RDNA2, it does too well. Can't wait to see what RDNA3 does.
What I don't like is the pricing, the (un)announced products, the power requirements for consumer hardware.

This generation starts to show the stupidity of fitting a 450+ W air cooler into PCIe specs.

The fact that people are buying it even though it's not much better than the 3090 while it's significantly bigger and expensive AF.

Add nothing as an option, because for the price (2000€+) it is nothing special.

40+% are impressed with the gaming performance? I'm assuming this is purely raster performance... Why is that part impressive? How many people are rocking 300+hz monitors? That ray tracing performance has me in awe, give me all the visual splendor. Before anyone says anything, there will be many more games with ray tracing in the near future.
