Hello guys, i wanna get a rx 480 for 1080p gaming and my monitor is 120 hz also. I m between Asus strix and msi gaming x. They say better things about msi but asus is also 15 dollars cheaper and have 1 more year warranty than msi one. And also i wanna ask if 8 gb is needed? I mostly play mmo games like WoW. I be happy if u help me decide plz thank you.

XFX is a dirty company.

I still remember my 7970 Black Edition, which had custom XFX pcb with no dual bios switch.

I can only choose between rog strix oc and gaming x actually. Asus has 1 more year warranty and on my country its warranty service is really good. You can say performance wise there is any difference or those samsung micron vram problem aplies in these rx r80 models also?

Samsung or Hynix vram has allways had a much better reputation than Micron.

The XFX RX480 GTR is indeed the most interesting because of how power is configured (see JayZTwoCents video of it on YT). I haven't seen any other graphic card with RX480 core delivering such results. As much as I generally don't like XFX...

I'm pretty certain that Jay was sent a commercial binned chip that is not available off the shelf for gamers.

Nitro or XFX GTR if possible. From the rest, go with MSI for its better cooling and less noise.

If you watch the video towards the end closely, you'll see he added VOLTAGE when running benches. Thus magical GTR myth dispelled. The GTR is a good pcb no doubt, but the asic % is more relevant than the pcb when attaining high clocks.

It's more than that, XFX bought a commercial binned chip from AMD and refitted it to a GTR pcb. This is why you saw such low power draw and heat enabling Jay to achieve such high OC on air.

Well, if you watched Adored TV's video, you will see that these low TDP chips have been reserved for commercial sales by AMD, and that AIB's do not get them for their gaming products.
So, the only way that Jay's GTR had such characteristics is if was originally a commercial binned chip.

Imagine the outrage if only Jay's sample would have such characteristics and the rest of GTR's would be the same RX480's as the rest. It would be stupid from XFX's perspective. They aren't that dumb...

Have you seen any other GTR that has shown such low TDP other than Jay's?
If that was the case you would see people selling their RX 480's to buy the GTR, and these GTR's would be priced well over $300.

BS. There are users on this forum with cards that clock higher on stock voltage. That Adored vid, the guy is pulling crap out of his ass, literally. And the other obvious point would be that if they used a rigged gpu to market with it would break some real laws ya know?

Nothing against the law about mounting a higher binned Polaris chip on their custom pcb, companies send golden samples to reviewers all the time.

We know how things go when only review sample has spectacular results, but not retail ones. It's a business suicide. Not even XFX is that dumb, believe me. If they are, they don't deserve to exist.

To be fair I'm the only one breaking his clocks in that thread, but it consumes much higher wattage. I wouldn't be surprised if xfx paid for better binned gpu's the xxx edition my brother has uses less wattage than my nitro+'s do and can clock almost as high.

One another note of the cards the op can purchase the Asus strix card is the best built rx480 on the market. Binning be dammed it has a better pwm section than the xfx and better cooling and is the better option.

You implied that video was saying that they put a different chip altogether. Are you saying you didn't type this?? If it's not available off the shelf then its a rigged card, ie. breaking some serious marketing laws.

I'm pretty certain that Jay was sent a commercial binned chip that is not available off the shelf for gamers.

What's the ASIC on yours? I got a second one that's on 72% now and pulls a full 15w more than my 78% asic card

Yea, we went thru the posts back then. However that Nitro+ that poster linked that I posted clocked over 1505mhz on stock volts. Did that guy get one of these rigged midnight specials too?
