I'm far into ACIV on the PS4 and trust me when I say it never has any lag issues. It always runs perfect. I can say that about every game I have played on both the PS4 and XBone to date.

Not that I have any reason to doubt that yet, but I'll wait until I see how his fares in the scenarios I mentioned before I judge it for myself. I've just seen too many cases where someone says there's no lag when I can detect a bit of it. I concur though that it often has more to do with the optimization of the game itself than the system playing it. A system is only ever as good as those whom write for it.

If you want a PS4 for sure walmart will have a few tomorrow in most stores in the usa, but from what I heard from my friend(who is a manager of a walmart) most stores are only going to get 12 consoles(superwalmarts get more) so go early and get one because its first come first served.

Just bought an xbox one on amazon... $800's later I have the system, a second controller, fifa/cod/ryse on the way and should be here monday (my friday)..

Hoping I don't regret my decision of sticking with microsoft.. cause god damn whoever says consoles are cheaper than pc's needs to be punched in the face.

The console itself may be cheaper. They bang you in the ass on expensive game titles and peripherals though. How much are titles on Xbone/PS4 anyway? I heard they went up from last gen.

In Australia about a week ago I saw they were about $10AUD more than last gen so $10-$20AUD more than the PC versions.

Yeah PC versions at release can be kind of high. Do console games typically go on sale for half off or 75% off? I've become a bargain pc game shopper by just waiting until the game I want is marked at a huge discount.

I know the PSN gives out a bunch of downloaded games if you subscribe for $30 a year. That seems like a pretty good deal.

Yeh in Australia they do. But generally only titles that aren't selling or ones that are 1+ year old. CoD Ghosts can be had for $49AUD now - it was released at $99/89 depending on where you look.

That is because with this generation of console is focusing on frame rate @ 1080p / 900p. You'll notice in a lot of press releases they are talking about maintaining 60FPS, whereas with the last generation the were talking mostly about visuals. This is why a lot of upcoming PS4 and Xbone games look almost visually the same as their predecessor because they can't do significantly better visuals and maintain 60FPS @ 1080p or 900p at the same time. Yet.

I'm mainly a PC gamer but I might buy one sometime in the future if some awesome exclusive game catches my eye. also I don't want to buy a console this early because they might have some hardware/software problems and there's only a few good games to play yet(no backwards compatibility too so I will have to plug in my old console to play old games)

I'm leaning towards the Xbox One, because Kinect has really got me interested, it's a whole new platform by itself that can't be experienced in PC unlike PS4. but we'll see.

Say that you really love the Kinect, is there a reason why you couldn't just plug it into a PC other than the lack of titles to support it? It is USB afterall...

But does it have the drivers and the applications to make use of it on the PC?

To a degree, yes, with very high resource multi plat games that have large worlds like AC IV, you're going to see some noticeable tradeoffs compared to the PC version, but when you look at exclusives like Killzone Shadow Fall, it becomes obvious that this gen also looks much better than last.

This gets back to what I was saying, that any system is only as good as the quality of authoring. Exclusives always get extra graphical polish and optimization. It was the same with last gen. That said, since exclusives are now (so far anyway) a much smaller percentage of available content, the power of the system becomes less of a factor.

One thing that hasn't really been touched on as far as how Steam Machine compares to these next gen consoles is that in using standard PC hardware, it will be MUCH easier to write for. I don't care about fixed hardware on consoles, when they have numerous processor cores to handle both CPU and GPU duties, it becomes more complex to write for them.

This is why multi plat titles on consoles often look mediocre. Sony and MS like to brag about what these systems can do, but in reality you usually only get the benefit of their full potential on exclusive titles. In going with an APU they economize, but it definitely shows up in a lot of titles.

This is why I don't pay much attention when people say consoles already benefit from fixed hardware as far as development efficiency when Mantle is discussed, because we've all seen numerous times that there's a LOT more to making a system easy to write for than fixed hardware. The hardware design itself makes a huge difference.

Too many devs and pubs are toeing the line for Sony and MS trying to convince players that PC development gets pushed back due to the added complexity and testing required, but it has more to do with prioritizing their cash cow console systems that garner 80% of title sales.

Visuals wise the ps4/XBone looks LOADS better than ps3/360. Running at a faster fps and trying to hit that 60 mark is one thing but the games so far look way better than anything we had on our consoles before. Games are only going to get better and better as time goes by. I consider the worst looking game on the new consoles to be: Dead Rising 3 (XBone) and when I say 'worse looking' what i mean is it just isn't up to par with the other games that have released so far but ultimately it still looks better than the 360 titles I've played. I guess when you have around 1000+ zombies in front of you they have to cut some corners somewhere. :)

Same reason I would buy a console despite having a decent PC. The titles... That's the point.

Yes I can plug it in, It's USB, yes it's connected, but I won't be able to do anything to it. There's almost no use in plugging it into windows unless you are a developer or some sort of modder. Some games unofficially support it through modding and patches like GMod or Minecraft but that's just a few. I don't plan on replacing my mouse/keyboard with kinect for computer input so there's really no use to it on PC.

I want to be able to play Kinect Games, dancing, sports, physical, etc, games. It is double the fun when friends come along. I go to my friends and we have tons of fun playing Casual Kinect games in their Consoles I want that experience in my own home too.

I played both at best buy yesterday. I can honestly say I'm not impressed at all. Maybe I'm getting old but the games seemed half ass and spoon fed to the player. The XBone had a far more solid interface from what I could see. The loading times on both of them were HORRIABLE. I felt like taking a nap between levels. As for graphic they seemed to be about the same. Honestly the graphic on both systems have a LOT to be desired. If I had a PS3 or a 360 I might be inclined to skip this generation.

When the 360 and PS3 came out they were a HUGE leap from their predecessor. These are no where near that kind of leap. Personally I think the graphics and "feel" suck.

The WiiU feels like a properly made console. I know Ill catch flack for that but the Xbone and PS4 just play like crappy PC's without the awesome Steam sales.

Load times on the ps4/XBone are no worse than ps3/360. No worse than some PC games. AC4 takes about the same amount of time to load on the PS3 Vs the PS4 Vs the PC version. All three seem to have long load times. I have AC4 installed on a standard HDD on my PC........But visually they are a BIG step up from the ps3/360 for sure. Some of the games compare really well with their PC brothers such as AC4 and Rivals.

I just don't understand when you and others make those statements. Unless you are so much a pc gamer that you are just blinded to how awesome these new consoles are. Maybe its the steam sales that have you unwilling to give the consoles a fair shake? If you are using a gaming rig with an SSD then I can understand the long load times bothering you and others. But IMO these load times are no worse then PS3/360 which are the only systems I wish to compare the new consoles to.

I dunno.... stick to pc games I guess.

The more I think about it the more I think I should stay out of this thread. Why I feel I need to defend the XBone and PS4 is beyond me. lol

I agree with both of you kinda, games are spoonfed nowadays but thats how many games are to tell the truth, the loading times don't seem to be very different than the previous ones like white said, but the multiconsole games like COD do not give the leap feel that killzone and even battlefield 4(mainly because it runs so bad on the PS3 and 360) gives and even then its not close to what we got from the PS2 to PS3 jump and thats understandable as that was a bigger leap than PS3 to PS4. If I had to tell someone to buy now or wait I would say wait, its not worth it right now.

The Wii U though, I can't see it succeeding in the long run.

so my brother brought his xbox one to my place today and I've been playing cod with him, does anyone notice a really annoying deadzone in the sticks, I think the 360 controller is better is it just me that thinks that.

I did get to compare BF4 on the One vs on my PS3 and their is a noticeable difference in quality and when I say quality I'm saying its far smoother on the One and the textures are better, but I still don't think its the same as the leap from the ps2/xbox to the 360/ps3 and I know i'm comparing a ps3 to a one but thats taht.

I would go with the PS4. Cheaper and faster. And I prefer the layout of the controller. That being said, I am not getting any as there are no games I can not get on PC that I really want.

Voted "Other".

Being that most AAA titles are coming to the PC nowadays I don't see the need for an Xbox One or PS4. For me, the only current console worth getting is the Wii U as it seems that the year long games drought is over. I'm currently looking forward to Bayonetta 2 (exclusive since Nintendo is funding development), SMW 3D and DKC, plus whatever the new year carries along. I might pickup the bundle with the two Mario games if I find it cheap enough.

edit: Missed the "PC gamer, but I also want a console" option :banghead:

Why is the Nintendo 3DS XL not an option? :toast:

When the 360 and PS3 came out they were a HUGE leap from their predecessor. These are no where near that kind of leap. Personally I think the graphics and "feel" suck.

The WiiU feels like a properly made console. I know Ill catch flack for that but the Xbone and PS4 just play like crappy PC's without the awesome Steam sales.

I'm with you. I can't say the gaming selection on the WiiU is worth a damn though. Nintendo does a great job with first party releases, then fails to court the third party devs between incarnations of Zelda, Kirby, Mario, and Super Smash Bros.

I'm still hoping that next year we see why the Xbone and PS4 matter. The opportunity is there to finally release something great (ie, devs have time to properly create some games), but my optimism is tempered by the fact that nothing currently announced seems to have that potential.

If you're a PC gamer I can see why the PS4/One are not that interesting, but I am sure for the console gamer the leap (even if not as big as last gen) is still a nice change.

It's only a "leap" because they doubled the life cycle of the console. To me that makes the performance of this generation even more pathetic. The graphic quality should be triple what the Xbone and PS4 bring. The graphics look dated and they just came out.

Dated compared to what PCs can deliver; not for console standards.
