I'm looking for an SSD enclosure for Samsung 990 PRO
I have a TB4 laptop but I also need the enclosure to be compatible USB 3.1 and 3.2 since from time to time I need to connect it to my android phone and an old PC.
I saw ACASIS TBU405 PRO M1 on amazon but I don't know if it's a reliable brand. Is it good? Can it keep the SSD cool enough?
Can you suggest better enclosures (cooler/faster/durable...)?

I can only comment on the drive itself, I have one with a built-in heat spreader. It's a very hot drive. avg 60°C in my system at idle (under the video card). You definitely don't want to put it in a limited volume.
For your purposes, PCIE 3.0 drives are better suited, especially energy-efficient ones, something like hynix P31.
Overall, you can try it, the temperature will actually depend on your workload. Otherwise, the drive will just reduce performance to a safe level temp.

No and No and No.

Even with a 10gbps enclosure my backup times are reduced from 6 to 5 minutes just by changing from pcie 3 to pcie 4 nvme drive.

I do not have any issues with my nvme in an usb nvme bridge case.

#1 the topic poster should look into usb 4 / tb4 usb nvme bridge cases. You may use a proper title please. "Looking for a tb4 usb nvme case."

It seems you never used an usb nvme bridge case. I make my backups on that drive and I use it as external rescue media / installation source.

The bus version doesn't matter. Mainly IOPs. Did you do this measurement on the same disk or were they different disks?)

I use a simple usb 10Gb/s enclosure for the nvme drives and I must say that under significant load it gets quite hot. You definitely don't want to touch it.

There are USB4.0 enclosures available already with big cooling solution, some have a build in small ventilator. They are very expensive at moment, around 100 dollar.
They also have an Thunderbolt 3/4 connection, speeds up to 40 Gbps! The brand UGreen has them available.

Honestly. It seeems you never used such a enclosure.

changing from pcie 3 to pcie 4 nvme drive.

My system nvme drive is KC3000 2tb is for sure not the limiting factor.

I did my backups before on SATA USB bridge with 5gbps with differenst SATA SSDs. Backup times were around 26 minutes.

I'm talking about real life data - no hoax benchmark software. Check my other posts. I talked about my enclosure several times when you are interested in it. My user is not that old. The hole backup process

I use a simple usb 10Gb/s enclosure for the nvme drives and I must say that under significant load it gets quite hot. You definitely don't want to touch it.

Please do your job before making a purchase and read the specs. There are good usb nvme bridge cases and rubbish ones.

I checked over ~100 usb bridges before I made my purchase. I paid extra premium.

This one is trash - worse of the worst usb bridges I ever saw. For educational purposes I share the model number and picture
I needed such a case because I wanted to see if the dead drive with m2 format and sata protocol was really dead. I returned it the two weeks time period. If it had been a decent case I would have kept it because it was sata and nvme capable usb bridge.

Easy, dude!
I wrote that 990 About a hot disk. If you don't have one or you don't know that it's hot, then don't write nonsense about boxes with $$$ fans that cool it.

Do your homework, sir.
And don't write nonsense about how you managed to make a PCIE4 disk work on a PCIE3 bus 10% faster than its bandwidth.

All the best, sir!

P.S. If you have any suggestions for a box that fits the question, write, we are waiting.
P.P.S. I won't even tell you the model of my box's controller, so as not to make you vomit text again)

This does not cool the disk. See usb4 enclosure, as written @SPDIF

I can't change the title nor edit the first post

Thanks for the info, I'm looking through USB4 enclosures
So this one, correct?
Some reviews say it gets too hot

Thanks you all!

edit
oh maybe you meant this one, they use the same picture: https://www.amazon.it/UGREEN-Adattatore-Esterno-Archiviazione-Compatibile/dp/B0CLV3D3H6

@Contra
lol.
i regularly copy around 10-80GB to multiple external backup drives, all M2 gen 4 x4 and not a single one gets more than barely warm),
even the 5 in my pc run warmer, and thats on a custom loop with rad exhaust cpu/gpu heat to the outside, e.g. case temps around 30C.
and yes, all those i use externally now were previously installed in my pc, behind solid mb heatsinks with thermal pads and still had an avg of 10-15C more than in enclosures.

@veku
i tested a couple, all of those where i didnt knew the name either started having issues shortly after i started using them, or didnt perform as sold.
after looking at a couple of ppls reviews taking them apart, outside of colling, it mainly comes down to what controller is inside, and you want to have at least realtek as minimum.
the "no names" i know use have name brand chips for the controller, work as advertised, and are limited by usb port/drive speed (pcie gen 4 x4), not enclosure.

in short, invest a little more in a good one, and it will pay off.
if you dont care about max speed, sabrent/icydock should have something on the lower side of cost.

icydock

Sabrent

So these are the ones I found looking through amazon
Issue is, there are a few reviews saying the 990 pro gets hot inside & throttled on the ugreen & anyoyo (first 2 links) enclosures
for the 3rd one there are no reviews about using it with a 990 pro
So I'm still not very convinced by any of these :(
In case I'll just try the ugreen one since it was recommended here too & I need the extra space soon

I did not see any issues with the Ugreen, witch brand is well known in Europe for good quality.

I sold 25 of them with no complaints, i use 5 of them here no overheating with even a WD SN850X 4TB inside, just don't cover the ventilator holes, of course then it will overheat with no cool air.
