Which win 7 should I get?

Hey guys, was thinking of picking up windows 7 but what difference is there between, home premium 64bit and pro 64 bit?. Don't really want to spend much more if I can help it.

From a normal user perspective i did not notice any difference at all.

Using Win7 64-Bit Pro on my main rig - via MSDNAA and Ultimate 64-Bit on my Laptop.

Have already worked with the Home Premium Version.

Buttom Line - not differences in real world at all for me - i would therefore go for the cheapest Version you can get (expect the Starter Version).

Pro X64 for me

but that's because i need domain support. as well as backup to shares...
if you don't move between networks or have a complicated setup at home, no need to go pro. I absolutely love it but if you don't need it don't pay more for it.

so unless you need pro, go home premium... 64 if you want 4gb or more ram, which i would recommend.

the old problems of going 64 with xp and vista are gone. I have had nothing but good things with it. the one or two programs that said "not compatible" first would have worked fine, it was only locked in their code to throw an error. and second were easily replaceable. i can't even remember what they are they are so unimportant. so Home Premium x64

Well I can't speak for Vista, but XP Home Premium did do everything a simple home user needed. And with a simple home user I mean someone that does some internet, gaming, office software stuff and whatever, and doesn't care about tweaking either their OS or their network/PC.

In 7, you can do a lot with Home Premium, but there can be some stingy bits like being unable to select a different OS language. The diagram pretty much sums it up though.

Hell, I'm a reasonably advanced user, and I know my way around XP (Pro and x64) very well if I say so. I do not miss any function yet.

Same here but for all the extras that Ultimate has that I never use... I think, for me anyways, it was a waste of money.

Home Premium or Pro would have suited me just fine and I would have saved a few bucks.

Home premium 64 does everything I need.
Pro and ultimate are for people who need those extras.
Not just because your some kind of "pro" or "ultimate" user..
Just extra programs some people might need.
No real world performance difference.
Me, I don't like throwing extra stuff on my pc I don't need.
The more things you give an opportunity to cause problems, the more problems you tend to have.
That's my outlook anyway.Can find premium 64 for 99 bucks as well on elecsurf.com

So is the xp mode pretty much what it says it is? What have you guys used it for, because that's the one thing I saw in Win 7 pro that I kinda think I might want, like say I'm having trouble with a program or game, I just switch it over. Am I on the ball here? Oh also..... does premium support basic home networking? I just have an extra laptop and my xbox 360 but I Like them all tied together.

I had 7 on a wireless network with my dad's PC, which runs XP (Home btw), a router and a cable modem. No problems there.

XP mode was one of those things I thought I'd need, since I need an IPsec VPN connection to work from home, but I found another free program that does that.

Remote desktop (the client) is available. I use it to connect to my work PC. Remote Desktop (server) is not in Home Prem, but I don't use it.

I also don't use a domain in a home network.
