One event talked about a gfx card release in the future, that will sit between the two top high end cards (performance we already have).
The other event was about a (re) release of a cheaper, slightly tuned Titan X Pascal (a card we have had for a year).

Both events two days before the most exciting processor launch since Sandy Bridge.

Amd has already hinted at it - I can't find the source right now but they positioned it between the 1080 and titan x.

HBCC is pretty monumental stuff. If it works as advertised, it could translate to significant jumps in FPS.

He made it clear that affordability is the priority, not being king. Hearing that statement, I'm almost convinced we're going to se an RX 590 for ~$400 with RX 580 for ~$300. Just like AMD is undercutting Intel, AMD aims to continue undercutting NVIDIA. The performance you stated makes sense from that perspective.

AMD's was 2 hours and the worthy announcements were about Vega being named Vega RX, async VR warp (which NVIDIA already has) and 2x CF scaling in Sniper Elite 4 (SLI has scaled that much for a while).

In contrast, NVIDIA's talk was under an hour, announced 1080 Ti (for much lower than expected price), dropped 1080 pricing by $100, disclosed arch details, gave Titans away, announced new DX12 libraries and Ansel improvements.

Any yet people favored the AMD's stream. Why? I am confused.

2x CF scaling in Sniper Elite 4 (SLI has scaled that much for a while).

More like 92-94%.

Theoretically, Sniper Elite 4 should get 100% on NVIDIA too. It's mostly about leveraging the D3D12 API's multiGPU support--something AMD has been advocating for.


Half hour or so of it was about realtime VR film-quality rendering on two Vega cards. The ongoing partnership between AMD and two other companies to push all facets of the technology, design, and art.

HBCC, he didn't talk much about it but in situations where it helps, it could be huge (more consistent and higher framerates).

Rapid Packed Math, didn't explain this much but it's something that's already in use on PS4 and XB1. They demo'd it with TressFX.

I think it's bigger than Polaris but not by much. AMD's focus is clearly in architecture improvements, not making a big Fiji-like chip. Polaris is already quite similar to Hawaii (with some minor architecture improvements).

Announced the Vega will be called... Radeon RX Vega... the crowd went mild.

Supposed specs are 12TFlops single precision and 24Tflops half-precisions FP16.

Bringing packed math to consumer as well as to Radeon Instinct (the Deep learning targeted products)

High bandwidth Cache (this is not new for GDC but is a Vega architecture feature that helps compute in the way memory is allocated, being able to map memory from HBM, System ram and even storage)

Pixel engine (Using L2 cache as render backend) Similar to Nvidia's tiled render cache


Async compute (allows devs to refresh different parts of the render at different rates... oxide updates shading at 1/3rd rate of everything else) +20% performance

Multires rendering (rendering high res in center of screen and lower res on peripheral) +20% performance

Combined rendering (reducing the double rendering required for each eyes perspective) +20% performance

Talk of perfect 100% multi gpu card scaling with native DX12 titles. (sniper elite)

Bethesda AMD partnership with open standards (no gameworks)

1000 ryzen (vega?) dev units sent out to help optimize games for more cores.

Because they talked about software at a software dev conference people were bored?

Based on my love of innovation ,it has to be Amd's.

and im non plussed by car parts in tech land so only the 1080ti to show , yawn.
