It was initially offered on NewEgg at $130 but they've dropped the pre-order price to $100, so I canceled the first order and placed another at the new price. I wonder if the Egg would have tried to charge me the full $130?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this. I normally get whatever cheap POS mouse and keyboard I can. But lately, I've seen the value of having a few extra buttons for common functions like the 'back' button in Firefox. The problem is that the damn buttons are never where I want them to be and I end up doing things I hadn't planned on doing. I can't tell you how many posts I've lost by accidentally hitting the 'back' button for example. So I'm hoping that this new puppy really is as adjustable as it seems to be. It's still a lot of money for damned mouse, considering how much time I'll spend using it, I figure it's worth it if it works as advertised.

If I've got the mojo when I get mine, I'll see if I can do a review. I imagine any number of hardware sites will beat me to it though.

I guess it depends on your aesthetic sense. If you appreciate form over function, then I would absolutely agree. But if you think function should always trump form, then I think you won't see as extreme an example of that philosophy as this very often.

Personally, I think it's "beautiful" when nearly no concessions are made to how something looks and all of the effort is put into making something purely functional.

How is that people in the UK always have to take it up the ass when it comes to computer hardware . . . and CD's/DVD's too from what I've heard.

edit: 90.00 GBP = 145.026 USD

How are you concluding that it's flimsy? I've looked at the info on their web site and it looks pretty solid to me. what am I missing?

and then in UK...i7 930 @ ebuyer = £215 ($348)

But anyhoo, on with the mouse talk...

Good. I'm glad you are getting one of these so I can get a real, honest assessment. Definitely interesting-and seemingly overpriced-but I'm still curious. Starting with size, dimensions and overall "feel".

I have the RAT 7 (wired version) and it is in no way flimsy.

The customization is nice, and the sniper button can be a godsend.

I recommend.

I guess there's a place for both formal reviews and subjective evaluations - just like with movie critics I guess. The only problem is that I don't do any real gaming and it's a gaming mouse. I'm getting it because I want to be able to customize the grip - so to speak - but not because it's going to make me any better at anything I do on the PC. And also just because I'd rather have hardware adapt to me rather than the other way around. That's a sort of heretical statement to make on a computer forum, but there you have it - maybe I'm not a "true" geek after all. Just don't make me turn in my man card along with my geek card.

I was going to try for a funny comment, but I'll just leave it at OUCH!

Yeah i know you're not a gamer. I just want to know how it feels in your hand and Im hoping it's not gigantic as my hands certainly aren't. Something no bigger than the old red LED Intellimouse Opticals is good for me.

Interesting, I don't know many lefties who actually use their left hand for the mouse (I am also a leftie, but I use my right hand :p).

Here is the direct dl link for the manual, but it's a pain in the ass to read on the screen. I looked for something saying what the dimensions are but nothing jumped out at me. There's a line that reads something like 525mm x 210mm which I thought was it until I realized that would make it more than 1.5ft long.

And how is it that people don't understand that the the UK has more taxes?

yes, and higher taxes always mean that products cost more just like i have to pay $30 for tube socks made in China . . .

Oh, wait . . .

Yeah I don't feel for sure like most mice are necessarily too big but I'm thinking it might be time to try and find a smaller one to see if it works better for me gaming in terms of accuracy.

It's all relative, but why not go for exactly the right fit if you can get it? For example I use an MS Sidewinder X8 on a couple of rigs now and I mostly like it. But the forward and back buttons are too hard to reach and I have to reposition my grip if I want to use them. On 2 other machines I use a Kensington mouse that's part of a desk set. It's slightly smaller and if the buttons were in the same place as the x8, it might be just right. But they're not and I always hit the back button when I don't want to. Actually after about 7 or 8 months of shooting myself in the foot that way I must have learned better since I don't seem to do it several times a day any more, but it still sucks when it happens.

If there is a 20% difference in taxes on almost all products you buy will cost more. Sometimes it's not only taxes, but it's a big chunk of it.

But I don't want to get in on it again (because it seems people here don't understand that higher sales tax = the more you have to pay). Good luck.

According to NdMk2o1o, VAT is added after the advertised price (see above) - at least that's how I read his post. And since he actually lives in the UK I figured I would take him at his word.

If that's wrong, then I guess I would see your point to at least some extent.

I think he meant that without the VAT that i7 would be pretty much the same as the i7 on newegg. 288 (US price) x 1.175 (UK VAT) = 338.

How are you concluding that it's flimsy? I've looked at the info on their web site and it looks pretty solid to me. what am I missing?

... I've made my mind after seeing how the R.A.T's underlying customization mechanisms work in a video ... don't take it too hard twilyth just because you've ordered it already, that's just my opinion but I stand corrected; please give us your honest assessment after you receive it and test it ... looking forward to it :) ...
