I'm just putting my feelers out here. I know some folks here have some high TDP HEDT hardware like Threadrippers, or 16 core Ryzens, i9s, ect. On another forum I'm running a group-review of The IceGiant ProSiphon Elite. They are sending me a sample this week, I test it, document my data and remarks, then I ship the package to the next forum member. I have 1 sample for U.S.A., and one for Canada, and there is already a team leader for each. I just need more testers. You don't need to be a professional like crazyeyes, just be able to run a few free benches according to a tiny written procedure. There is a small homework assignment to qualify (basically by proving your knowledge by running a few tests on what you have now). You will be required to pay to ship to the next reviewer and it's about 8 pounds in weight so it will cost about $15. You do get compensated with an IceGiant t-shirt. I already have enough testers with 6 and 8 core chips. I need more 12+ cores and willingness to overclock to push this cooler. If you think you might be interested in this, post here or P.M. me so I can get you the homework benchmarks and get you on the tester list. What IceGiant gets out of this is your feedback for improving the next cooler, wider data, and this will also generate some hype for the small company.

You will be required to pay to ship to the next reviewer

I have already tested +50 coolers from 12 different manufacturers (if we will include samples organised for colleagues it will be ~100 coolers and 18 different brands) I have never heard that CPU cooler could be resend for another reviewer after test. I understand when they ask to resend expensive graphics cards, but this is some kind of disrespect for reviewers from company side.

Judging by the lack of interest here, I don't think anyone else thinks it's a good deal. It basically costs you time and money to test this thing for them and all you get is some crappy t-shirt in return. Disrespect indeed.

Getting product out to reviewers and eating the costs is all part of the overall cost of doing business, not doing it on the cheap by having reviewers shoulder it. As this is a small startup, they should be using their venture capital for this. If they don't have any, or very little, one has to wonder how viable they are.

Pay $15 and do some hours of work, all for a t-shirt? Yeah, that sounds like a great deal...

Sorry, but WHY would any sane person be willing to do this? You don't get to keep the cooler and you have to pay for the shipping!?

As a once upon a time professional tester, reviewer and hardware journalist I'm calling BS on this. Not a single cooler manufacturer would be this stingy and I know quite a few of them and have tested quite a few of their products over the years.

i have to agree doing work and then having to pay for it is taking the pea, now if we got to keep the cooler it would be better but still not a great deal as it would be some what a leap of faith because it could be a lemon. i know its not for the uk but i had to say my 2 pennys when something is so un fair.

It's ALMOST like we need to pay to review it. This is a deal where you get the short end of the stick.
If I were to do this (not that I could) I would expect to get 1-2 fans as compensation. But as others have stated I'm also unfamiliar with the brand.
But this is a bad practice.

The cooler in question is sold at just 150€ or so. The manufacturing cost is likely under half of it. How is it possible that the company can’t afford to pay some 1000€ worth for this (now failed) marketing effort? Mere 1000€ would see some 15-20 coolers sent to enthusiasts and would be a lot simpler and more time efficient solution to the same problem. Either someone there does not know math or thinks that people are mostly idiots.

Extremely confusing.

I got AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12cores 24threads: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-3900x

But would be nice to keep the cooler because from what Linus from LinusTechTips says it's a good cooler.

Its good for a big Threadripper, not good for Joe's like you and me. I considered testing it, but yes not enthusiastic about spending my time, spending my money on something I don't get to keep. As for the T-shirt.. well I have a lot of those. The cooler is interesting though.

This is a very small start-up company, just 2 people. They also told me that supply is really tight right now. So really I don't think they can afford to just give everyone a freebie. They did send out review samples to a few of the major reviewers but they got snubbed. The two samples I'm getting are actually the company owner's samples that they tested themselves.

For me, I like playing around with new hardware. This cooler is different than anything I've seen before. Mine should be here Friday, I'll do my testing, then I'll send it on to the next interested tester. We already have a few testers, but we could use more, so I dipped a toe in here since there are some hardware enthusiasts here.

TIM was discussed so they are sending a huge batch of Kryonaut, but that might not arrive until later. For the U.S. testers I am including a cheap thermo-hygrometer probe.

This started as U.S. only but there was enough Canadians interested that they decided to have a second team. Could this expand to EU and beyond, maybe if there is enough interest.

Anyways, if you aren't someone who runs Cinebench for fun to see how hot your new cooler gets, this exercise isn't for you.

If they can't afford $1000 for a reviewing campaign then they cannot make a good product... That seems like a BS excuse.

@damric Sorry, but I know what Linus charges for his videos, so that's a really lame excuse. The company my SO works for has done content with him and in general, it's north of US$10k per video. So please, come up with a valid excuse when you spend a ton of cash like that with him, then come here begging for help and asking people to pay for shipping.

Should just buy the shirt. Costs what shipping is and spend much less time on it all.

So rip off your old cooler, install that on wasting more thermal paste to benchmark it with cinebench then have the hassle of it being shipped to someone else and you get a tshirt? Lol......

I don't see any company here begging for anything.

I do see myself offering to share my toys. I don't work for the company.

If this interests you, great. If not, it's not a problem. I'd prefer that the parties that are NOT interested would not clog up the thread with posts, but hey it's a forum not a perfect world. Those that own HEDTs and enjoy doing this sort of thing are not doing this for the t-shirt, and they certainly are not blinking over having to ship it to one of their peers.

We already have a few testers, but we could use more, so I dipped a toe in here since there are some hardware enthusiasts here, and not just a bunch of Karens.

Most people are not ok with testing "samples" they don't get to keep, especially if they have to do all the work testing them with no other compensation for their time and effort.

If we were going to be testing retail ready samples, or near enough to it, shipped to us and we get to keep said samples then it might be interesting. Otherwise, you're just not going to get any takers.

Hi,
Not too many HEDT users use air coolers heck I water cool an Q9550 lol
Sure not worth tearing down water loops to test an air cooler, shipping aside.

What's this other forum you speak of :)

I think after the IC Diamond fiasco, many here are gun shy when seeing owners of a company doing shady shit.

This is not how the industry works.
Asking users to pay is poor form.
Testing thermals with Cinebench is laughable.

Although, a free t-shirt to get used and abused by a pissed off company that didn't like what professional reviews said, so went the most abstract way around trying to save a company... Well played I guess.
