Who still uses ATI CCC?

I have realized since getting reintroduced to Vista that Catalyst Control Center still kills our gaming performance scores after so many months of rebuild opportunity. Forcing AA may be good but performance is too. Despite all my senses of hatred with CCC after Round 1 with Crysis (Max Settings), I am still surprised that AMD still gets the props for adding new features like ATI Stream and Crossfire-utilized AA. I have nothing to blame about this as its a choice between performance and features. I decided to maybe post a thread about this over how many of our members still stick with CCC. Enjoy!

I've used DRIVERS ONLY for years due to BLOAT, horrible clunky interface of CCC, and performance. Why spend time downloading and installing stuff that adds no value, in fact, increases instability issues.

The "old, classic" ATI control panel was great.

Well i think the same of the nVidia too i wish that was how it used to be as well.


Anyways, I use CC due to needing to for scailing. The odd time i'm change the AA setting like for TW 08 and put it on edge detect @ x8 (x12 samples) AA. But typically i leave it on auto.

Ohh and some times turn on Cat AI for some games to other from that it's pointless having it installed.

i use CCC for the options. scaling, crossfire, forcing AF.

Admittedly i wish they had a method similar to Nvidia, with the game profiles. ATT was the option there, but it doesnt like x64 OS's from what i hear.

I get far better performance with CCC than without...though i have had Xfire setups since the x1950s were released and so need CCC for proper scaling.

I'm still using CCC as well and don't really have any problems with it besides Vsync which doesn't seem to really work so I set it in whatever program that has it available. I use it mainly for the profile options as I set different settings for each program especially clock speeds.

I run very low clock, fan, and voltage settings for daily usage and watching movies. When I'm playing a game or something more intensive I have different AA/AF and fan speed settings (my card isn't overclocked because I don't need to) and CCC works out well for me using that.

not much choice if you run crossfire. I know of no other app that enables crossfire, just the CCC.

until many of the functions that are needed cant be found there anymore.

There is nothing wrong with a properly setup CCC. If you want to learn I suggest you read this.

I've used it for OC'ing out of the box, as well as setting up my TV on the second DVI. Worked like a charm. ATI has been quite good that way.

The hottest and most power draw I've ever seen from my system has been when detecting the highest clocks in CCC, so I assume they've done thier homework.

Never had a CF setup...

instead, I use ATT, which allows for ALL the same features of CCC, plus more options and tweaks . . . and doesn't take up anywhere near the amount of memory that CCC uses.


OCing is better with ATT, plus fan support (and for some cards, seperate memory controls). Crossfire support, plus you can also force specific CF settings (such as rendering type, force hybrid, etc.).

Plus, D3D and OGL tweaks, AVIVIO tweaks, AA/AF method tweaks . . .

All around, a much better app

My 9.6 CCC uses ~2mb of memory when running in the background and 30mb when opened in advanced mode, hardly the memory hog it used to be.

The other features att adds could be useful, things like fan controls and memory speed controls are in CCC now for all new cards as well as lots of AA options, that just leaves rendering modes which can be controlled by adjusting the AI and aa/af options for each game to trick the CCC into a certain render mode.
