Why all Zbooks look the same G1(2014),G2,G3,G4(2017) ? The G5(2018) only has a new color.

Why HP has made 5+ generations of identical looking laptops ?
Hard time to tell them apart they all look the same.
G1(2014),G2,G3,G4,G5(2018).
Now the G5 has only a silver color or so...
Probably majority will ship as black color meaning it will be similar as other Gs.

HP has never been very innovative. Also, they follow the Apple model of proprietary designs. Those laptops you mentioned don't allow you to upgrade the ram easily at all, for example, even though many other companies make it very easy. There is a reason HP and Apple do this. $$$

Personally, I refuse to own either brand.

The company where I work has all zbooks and ICT-people buy them. All zbooks look like identical twins no matter what generations they are.
I tried to make them buy superb 17" Dell Precision 7000-series but what can you do
Other wish would be Lenovo Thinkpad P71 17".

I think HP has just premium brand prices. You pay for the air inside the laptop.

Yeah serious, I have an Elitebook in front of me and its great. Sturdy, robust build, I could hold any corner of the device and it doesn't feel like it flexes anywhere, it has a great K/B and trackpad, doesn't go hurricane when it gets warm, just overall a very well built unit. When I feel threatened I could use this as an effective blunt weapon too, that's how it feels

Soon I'll get more comparison material when we move to Win 10... it also meant new hardware but it will be an HP again, probably something similar.

Consider yourself lucky then...

We used to use HP EliteBook at work, terrible laptops.. Around 25% was RMA'ed in the first 3 years, out of aprox 500 units..

We switched to Lenovo T series, 2 years in, 1 RMA (dead mobo, was replaced on-site within 2 days)...

I don't consider HP quality and they LOVE to use proprietary stuff. Their newer laptops with USB-C can only charge using HP USB-C dock/port rep... sigh

Even their Zbook's are terrible to upgrade/fix because of stupid design, has to remove tons of screws and keyboard to upgrade memory etc.

Actually, that would be a good reason to change styles, to force users to buy new docking stations too.
