Why does my graphics card get hotter in standby mode?

Have been trying to fathom this out for a while and cant work it out, all my fans are controlled by a fan controller so its not that, and the PCI-E power saving feature is on in Windows power options.
Wtf is causing my GPU to get about 7*C hotter while the PC is in standby mode (S1)??

you could have less airflow in your case during standby (if the cpu underclocks etc... Q-fan could be running the case and cpu fans less...

But like I said in my OP, all my fans are on a fan controller.
Mobo doesnt control fans, they run the same speed no matter what.

where are you reading the gfx card temps while the machine is in standby... also does the controller run the fan on your gfx card aswell or does the ATI software?

Graphics card BIOS runs my GPU fan speed. Fan controller does all fans other than GPU and CPU.

But with all the fans in my case, even if the CPU fan stopped I doubt it would make more than 1*C difference if that.

Temps are read by everest, put through to my G15 display.

Didnt seem to spin down, but I couldnt keep it in standby for more than a minute or so, stupid sensitive laser mouse :rolleyes:

Unless your GPU fan is on the controller it probably is slowing down quite a bit... I would hook it up to the controller if the option was there, if only to test out the theory, and later to have precision performance according to your desires over the automatic up and down cycle in RPMs.

dosent the ATI bios slow down the GPU speed (and possibly fan speed) in standby mode... kinda like 2D / 3D mode

I believe the S1 state reduces board voltage to something like 1.8v, just enough to keep your RAM active. If the GPU is getting power for the fan from the mobo, a drop from 3.3v to 1.8v is pretty significant...
