Why does nobody ever talk about the 10850k?

I had a Z270 get damaged in moving so I took the small plunge to an 10850k and an Asus Prime Z490-A.

Something in the process I noticed when researching is nearly every review but for maybe 1 on Gamers Nexus all spurge for the 10900k. Is it an Intel sponsered move? I can't figure it out.

On paper and what seems t be the real-world tests the 10850k is maybe 2& slower than the 10900k. It has the same cores and specs but for a 100mhz speed difference. Yet for also nearly 100 less than the 10900l and for the proce is seems like a no-brainer when sitting next to a 5800X and even more so looking at the proce increase for the 5900X. In todays market it seems like the budget king of the hill when placed next to the unobtainium 5900X.

So...what gives? Am I missing something glaringingly wrong?

Most of the reviewers are provided the processors from Intel, and Intel sends them 10900K processors. I think the ones that reviewed 10850K processors either specifically requested them from Intel or just went out and bought retail.

As for the difference, the 10850K seem to be just worse binned. Intel seems to have just raised the voltage to make sure they are all stable and shipped them out the door. I personally have been able to overclock my 10850K beyond the specs of a 10900K as well as undervolted it from the stock voltage it came with.

No need for a 10850K to be slower than a 10900K. It is an unlocked K series. Give 'er lots of voltage and crank up the multiplier.
The price premium for a 10900K where I live was too much for me. I prefer cheap.
Some 10900K do not run as good as this 10850K does so no use giving Intel extra money for the same thing.

The difference between this 10850K and most 10900K is insignificant.

Tom's advocated for the 10850K over the 10900K IIRC.

I guess its because reviewers were already provided a 10900k and cant be bothered to buy a 10850k as its basically the same thing.

From what I can remember, GN suggested that you go out and buy the 10850k instead as there was a point in time that the 10900k was unobtainum as well.

The 10850K I'd say is a niche CPU. It's not the best at anything but still has good gaming performance and 10 cores. It should appeal to professionals on a budget but most professionals will spend more for the best they can get. Those 2 extra cores don't help in games either. Unless you absolutely need those core, you'd be better served buying lower on the stack. Gaming performance is going to be equal all the way down to the 10400 unless you have a top tier GPU and play at low resolution.

Hi,
If it was an early release model made in China probably not too bad most these were best performance
If it's a older release made in Vietnam or ... likely not very good just more lower bin 10900k's which these were very power hungry for high clocks and thus space heaters.

Also if you didn't wait for pci-e 4 boards it's not worth it for z490 one now.

The 10850K and 10900 are actually insane values... I love mine... so nice for gaming / work / mining.... gaming while mining.....

This is my memory latency with my IDE open, teams open, all my crap running and the miner running:

Those are Germany prices with bad VAT and such, you're also listing to an Ebay link on the Intel SKU.

I do agree that AMD increased their prices too much though, most people I see on chats and such vouch for Intel due to this reason.

and?
i just checked the lowest available price from a regual retail store that sells in my country. (both ebay listings are from retail shops and not private users.)
the cheapest 5800X in the country is on ebay too for the same 427,88€ (right now) AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU BOX Prozessor, 8-Core, 3,8GHz, Socket AM4,100-100000063WOF | eBay

They just flipped in positioning... Intel used to charge ALOT more for having something slightly faster, and 2x /3x for having something much faster, and now that is AMD.

I always find there is insane diminishing returns when sailing past about ~$400 on a CPU for my workload.

both are sold from german retail sellers. just on ebay because.. why not. even big electronics stores like Mediamarkt or Saturn are selling on ebay beside their retail stores and web shops.

I'm just pointing out that you sent an Ebay link that didn't show which retailer it belongs to. We all know AMD is overpriced right now. Go to PCPP or somewhere if you want to make an even price comparison with both CPUs from the same retailer. In fact, I'm going to do it for you:

I see it costs a lot more when you want to buy it outside of Ebay from a proper retailer. Not everybody is into warranty and re-sale from Fleabay.

these are proper retailers.
and by law we have a full 2 year "Gewährleistung" on every product wherever it's sold as long as it's not a private seller.
and from your own link on PCPartPicker:
both amazon and ebay costs literally the same.

Since when does 385 Euros equal to 265? You also still fail to understand that some random seller on Ebay does NOT apply for a whole other different big name retailers which sell at a higher price.

I wish Intel would give me a 4-8 core with a 5.3Ghz+ (whatever they can max it out at) boost somewhere between the price of the 1x600K and 1x900K. I really don't need all these cores, and it sucks the best boost is on the highest core/most expensive part.

You'll find that the clearance prices, from Intel, don't actually apply to a lot of the rest of the world! In fact if you count population it won't apply to probably 75% of the human population, so even with the inflated prices unless you want to stay on Intel's 10th gen AMD's still usually a better buy.

Sounds like the unsung hero of the 10xxx line. It would be the one I'd get if I was buying one of these processors.

I currently own 3 108500k's. They all clock well with very reasonable thermals. I don't think there is a better price to performance chip available right now for multitasking. Very nice chip.

The 5900X is currently in several stocks of Microcenter for $550, I checked the 10850K and it costs about $385. Board prices also tend to be higher on Intel. Personally for multi-tasking I'd grab the 5900X, it's a whole lot better CPU.

Tend to be higher on Intel? Have you not seen the $500+ Am4 mobos :D

They are both expensive.. but if I were building right now I would probably choose Intel..

Nobody in their right mind should pay over 500 for an AM4 board, that's a moot point. You're bringing E-ATX MSI boards and crap, I've seen nobody buy into that.

I would never buy anything MSI.

You wouldn't pay that much, but the sold out boards say otherwise :D

You're giving me such a pointless argument, I don't care whether you buy MSI or not, but to pay some $700 for a board is literally throwing your money to a garbage bin.

A $160 B550 Strix has all the VRMs going needed for that 5900X, while doing so, it also comes with various features such as wi-fi, BT, etc which are more or less the same stuff found on that very big board you're talking about.

A similarly capable Intel board will do you no less than 200.
