haha i agree, when you card is facing down like normal it's kinda hard to see your awesome after-market heatsink or even just a stock design, but if it were the opposite side of the norm then everything would be more noticeable.

Build a backwards case and put the mobo in backwards. Try it. XD

The items on the board will be upside down.

Turn the motherboard so the video card is pointing in the opposite direction and make a case around it. XD

When add-in cards were first made, most cases were sideways, not upright. So heat rising wasn't really a consideration.

The main problem with trying to reverse the design, is that all other add-in cards would also have to be redesigned in this manner. Otherwise, you have a much higher potential for the gpu's heatsink to interfere with other components. Like your video card hitting your sound card, for example.

The top of the card can still get dust on it but, unless you are overclocking, it is not critical to keep it free of dust.

I see tons of bad fans and clogged heatsinks in video cards. People use them in too many types of places to really make such a bold statement. Myself, never an issue, but believe me when I say they get clogged! Turning them upside down or right side up however you want to look at it will not fix or hurt this issue in any massive way.
