Why is coil whine still a nuisance?

Coil whine replaced by Tinnitus lol

I would trade for coil whine again..
That's because you have coil-shaped organs in your body. Two of them, for some redundancy.

Get some hot glue if it bothers you, otherwise it's just a fact of physics that things vibrate.
Yes but no.

(and you're making it sound as if hot glue defeats physics, haha)

Unfortunately, everything that has coils can and will whine. TV, monitor, psu, motherboard, gpu. Some even say ssd. So since consumers accepted it, manufacturers don't care.

I'm not an engineer, but I say you either need to tune the pcb to the coils to avoid whine or you need to make coils for each gpu individually, not just pick one from the shelf.

Will use same thing for my tinnitus.

For real now - coil whine gets better at lower refresh and with undervolt. For tinnitus I use a combination of ear spray (consisting of natural oils), maintaining normal sound volume and using earplugs at night.

The problem is when you can hear too much, like when I'm charging my eneloops I can hear the faint whine of electronics of the Panasonic charger.

Personally I don’t mind for my gpu. It’s a blower style anyways so the fan is louder. I do however share your frustration. Whiny chargers are the worst.

Maybe my ears are different

That is definitely a factor, or maybe the braim. Even people who hear well percieve sound differently. One mans unremarkable background noise is another mans daggers in the brain.

Anyway I don't think I have ever had coil whine louder than fans so I have never really had problems with it.

I spent a bit of time finding feedback on 5080 coil whine. There was a definite set of models that had mostly positive comments on coil whine (often the cheaper brands) and vice versa. Finally went for an MSI Inspire 5080. Coil whine is massively reduced over the Asus TUF I had previously and it clocks near-as-dammit as good. There is variance on each *individual* GPU that ships for sure but certain models clearly use components that are much less whiny and there is seemingly no tangible downsides doing this. So why do it?? If it's cost-cutting, why are most of the quieter GPUs coming from the *cheaper* models?

Does the Inspire use the black no-name coils or the HC⚡︎ ones?

Mabe u shoud buy earphoner:D
however
The stronger the graphics card performance, the louder the sound.

Maybe the long exposure to coil whine is the cause of Tinitus ;)
No, it is the result of big U-Drills and hard shit. I used to machine a bunch of different hydraulic parts for CAT.

Edit:

I was a CNC Lathe Operator for 8 years.

With sufficient ear protection or not?

Sorry, man just a silly joke.
I did care in past for an old man with Tinitus, he used to work on electricity poles for some years, don't know what causes the start of Tinitus for him, 10 years or so exposure to EMF or the fact that was electrocuted and sent to the ground, he had to big stars for entrance and exit on his skin, the best treatment for him was olive oil instilled in his ear.
I know there is a link in between EMF and Tinitus, that's why the silly joke.
However that "link" was not yet proven.

No no, it is all good my man, no need to be sorry :)

Lots of good memories running those machine, shit it could have been my stereo, my old server fans, the COVID shot is when I noticed it.. just saying.. but it could be anything :D

No.. hard to hear what the tool is doing when you cant hear :(
