I recently deicded to test my computer by downloading 3dmark06 from this site. I ran the test and got a score 0f 2343 which is very low. I have the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3.1GHz dual core processor, g. skill dual core 2gb sticks of ram, GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 motherboard, and the Geforce 8500gt video card, I know my system should be getting a better score since my friend is running an almost identical system execpt he has the 9400gt video card and he has a score of 16,000. Does anyone have any ideas why my system is getting such a low score.

No way in hell the 9400GT will score 16k, 2.3k sounds about right for an 8400GS.

well your cpu is slow as is your GPU and maybe 16K in 3Dmark03 but not in 06 on the 9400GT

I'll have to agree with everyone else here 16,000 is impossible to achieve with 3D Marks 06 with a 9400 GT or a 8500 GT, even with high-end rigs 16,000 is a challenge. Your friend is probably quoting figures from an older version such as 3D marks 03 which would explain the high number.

On 3Dmarks 06 you should both obtain around 2-4k! Neither of you have gaming cards so 3D marks shouldn't be an activity you two be too heavily concerned about.

Just to throw in some thought for comparisons; my Q9550 @ 3.75GHz and my 4870 slightly OC'd hits just over 17250 in 3DMark06 default settings.

It's ok.. I would've put at least an HD 4650 in for gaming. Everything else looks pretty good tho.

Although the 9500 GT is faster than the 8500 GT both cards are very slow with a capital V . There are Direct x 9.0 cards released 5 years ago which would outperform you guys with double the performance. Its actually funny seeing such competition between two friends running essentially DVD playback video cards aka home theatre computer video cards

i have a higher end card in my HTPC....

if you'll want to compete oc the pair of them and see what they but until then neither of you has any grounds to compare on.

So you buy 8500GT's for your customers? Man come on, I build PC's for people too and that's low. I always use at least an HD 4670 for gamer builds.

I have beef with you....9400gt plays left 4 dead at high settings what more can you want for a $60 card ;). .

The 5 year old Nvidia 7900 and ATI x1900 series would outperform the 9400 GT in gaming. Do not get me wrong the 9400 GT has its purpose but for today’s games such as Left 4 Dead isn't that purpose. (unless you're playing 1024x768 then an acception could be made)

I respect the budget gamer, I'm a budget gamer! I do not have the latest video card or processor but I have an eye for a bargain when weighing up price to performance. Both the ATI 4670 and Nvidia 9600 GSO are also priced around $60 and would annihilate the 9500 GT and would of been a better choice financially.

But saying that. Warlord, from what I understand it was your responsibility to research your purchase thoroughly, if your friend (Shadow*) made you believe you were buying a fantastic video card he was exaggerating hugely. But it was your responsibility check up on its performance level yourself, its the 21st century you could of Googled it before handing him $50 or $60!

You both are coming off as immature in a adult forum, but it is a pleasure to have you both on here if you need help upgrading Warlord we'll be happy to advise you :)

Tell us your requirements for games or otherwise and a budget and we will point you in the right direction
