Today I was trying to help a client understand the difference between older hard drives and newer hard drives. So I made a simply graphic.

Benchmark on the left is on my computer, benchmark on the right is the client's computer.

Uh maybe his is mostly full? Or any number of other things? There are other factors in this equation besides just the HDD itself.

nah, mines just from the latest gen of single platter HDDs. Apparently this drive uses some special logarithms to make it more efficient.

Single platter HDD = win in that case. That 1T black is 2 or 4 platters I believe.

yep, i couldnt believe it was available here so fast. scooped one up right then. 65$ for one here cheap. It was the cheapest 1TB available. even cheaper than the crappy green ones.

Actually this would be the truth, it's because you have the newest blue it uses a single platter 1tb. It's one of the best bang for the buck drives I believe.

This is exactly what he's talking about. Although the black does have dual processors, but is an older generation than that of your blue drive.

If you're talking about the Blue WD10EZEX yes, that's a great drive. Unfortunately my Black WD1002FAEX is not as good. But it's still better than old disks.
