My pal is planning to get a new graphicscard, and hes choosing between x850xt and x800xt.
I know x800 har a bit tighter memory timings wich could indicate its mems wont clock too good compared to x850 but wich card would give the most performance when maxed? He will peltcool it of course (though only with a 80w one) and put copper sinks on the rams or make waterblocks for them too.

Cheers!

hm when he can achieve a x850 xt so he has 16 pipes it will be faster with a watercooling clokced to max but when he can only get a x850 pro then take the x800xl

hm my tipp would be a x800xt will be good to

My question was is x800xt or x850xt better when clocked to the max, maybe I was a bit unclear :)

A lot will depend on the heat it produces. They will both be good overclockers, as to the best I couldn't tell you. With peltier cooling you going to be able to go high and you'll be able to volmod it good too. I'd go with X850 because its a newer card and runs at higher stock speeds.

djbbenn> Yeah, thats what we're thinking too, but I heard that the x800 series will give higher benchmark scores due to tighter memorytimings and my friend really loves bragging with good benches :)

As I said before I couldn't tell you exactly which one is better, I'd be making it up. I know down at Texas when they had the overclocking comps, they had a x850 running at 800MHz core. That was with LN2 cooling mind you. Thats fast, that will set records. The mem timings wont make that huge of a difference, thye will make a difference but not as much as core speed. Now the X800 will get a high overclock, but where the X850 are already running at a high clock, they got a advantage. But you will probably get a higher one on the X800 but you can't forget about the stock speed of the X850. I have a X800Pro and on stock cooling I am at 540/560, no errors with Atitool. Thats the stock speeds of the X850XT PE in core and close to it in mem. So I'd personnly go with the X850 due to the newer core and higher stock speed. With good cooling I'm sure you'll get a great overclock. ;) Both cards will be great though.

I agree with Djbbenn. If you can afford the X850 XT than go with it. I seriously doubt you will be disapointed, and if your friend loves to brag I doubt anything else would give him more rights than an overclocked X850 XT PE . Personally that is my dream card. :D

My dream card was the X850, but now with the R520 series coming out...my outlook kind of changed

But as Thermopylae said, if you wont bragging rights I think the X850 will do just that. :D

It will depend more on which card clocks better pal. Clock for clock, X850XT will def perform better than a X800XT. :)
