Will a 230watt psu be enough for an athlon 64 s754?

so i'm have some parts at home:
Athlon 64 3000+
asrock s754 nf3 mobo
Ide HDD
riva TNT2
1gb ddr
....

my opinion is that a 230watt psu is enough for this. what do you say?

yes, as long as the PSU is still in good condition.

That system would be very low wattage.

for comparison, my media PC loads at less than 100W and its tons more powerful. with a low end video card (TNT's didnt even have fans on most models, so they were definitely :love:

0W) and a single channel, low wattage CPU, small amount of ram and a single IDE HDD, i'd be surprised if it went over 150W at load.

The question is of course, is how good the 230W PSU is... if its 230W peak, then it may be a problem. 230W sustained? easily handle it

I ran a ShuttleXPC SN85G4 V3 (240 watt PSU w/ 16amps on 12v) containing a s754 A64 @ 2.56GHz, A.I.W X800XT, 1.5GB DDR466, and 2x WD Caviar drives for just over 2 years. I sold it when I built my current PC and that old rig ran another 2 years before the PSU crapped out.

Granted, the PSUs that Shuttle uses are quite robust for their meager output, but I don't think there will be a problem with OP's rig as long as 12v rail is at least 12 amps.

my opinion get a slightly larger psu, i'm sure corsair do smaller 400 watt more energy eficient powerpacks

infact i'd like to see some numbers on the differences

the specs are the same as my mums PC actually, except we gave her a radeon 9500.

Runs windows 7 just fine, even if it does power on a bit slow/load programs a bit slower than i'm used to.

the cpu being sideways shouldn't matter, i'm sure it made an impact on what cooling solution you could use... reminds me of the "slockets" back in the PIII days

the 230watt psu could run it... depending on the brand of course. you could give this a shot...

it is fine... with older computers though, you always have to watch out when get new PSUs for them, as the 5V line may need alot more power and amps then what current low wattage power supplies offer

Ya ur fine the 2nd system in my specs only draws about 230w at peak load so i would say that system is fine

on the psu calculater there were 3 diff athlon 64 3000+s, the one with the odd code used about 30w less so if you know exactly which model 3000+ it is that would help a bit.
