Oh yes, I saw a video on America's electrical system a little while ago and very interesting it was too. It showed how most homes actually had 240V power as a split phase, with the centre tap forming the neutral side. God help you if that centre tap wire breaks...No, the end result is basically the same as far as electrical devices are concerned, but how it is achieved is different. The US 240v doesn't have a neutral.
