No, a GTX 780 will make the 580 look like a slug that crawled through some glitter.

Quick check - hard to compare - GTX 580 AMP got 6500 in 3dMark11 and the 780 gets over 12k.

I don't see the point getting the Ti. In some benchmarks, the 780 is almost identical to the Ti.

The jump from 580 to 780 is enormous. From 780 to Ti not so big. The Ti is undoubtedly faster though.

I just upgraded my 580 to a 780 last month. The difference is ENORMOUS. The phrase the54thvoid about the 580 being a slug is very well put once you do it. It's the hugest degree jump in gameplay and picture quality I have ever gotten out of a GPU upgrade!!

Isn't the PCI-E bus only really stressed during like level/data loading? Once the game is running there is not enough traffic to make PCI-E a bottleneck of any kind. I could be wrong and maybe mantle will make more use of the bus during gameplay. The bus between the GPU and VRAM is the bus that works hard during gaming,

You will be fine. I haven't had any problems running a 780Ti OC on PCIe 2.0. It always runs at 99% GPU usage and my benchmarks all exceed the reviews I have read. My CPU is obviously my weak point but it's still not a bottleneck for the GPU. There is still plenty of bandwidth in PCIe 2.0 for modern graphics cards.

Well it was about time for this kind of difference after three years. The jump from 285 to 580 was similar in a span of less than 2 years.
