I was wondering has anyone heard of Intel releasing a Skylake i3 or Pentium with the ability to Overclock? I know Intel released the Haswell 20th anniversary edition of the Pentium and that CPU had the ability to overclock. Will Intel be doing the same with Skylake?
I've looked around the internet and can't seem to find anything on this. Anyone hear any information about a CPU such as this releasing eventually? If so has anyone heard an approx. release date? I want to build a lower end gaming box but I do not want to loose the ability to overclock and I am not sure if I can hold off long enough to wait for AMD ZEN either.

Thanks

A fully unlocked CPU in each tier would be nice. I've longed for such a Celeron since they locked them down.

Considering they locked down the Pentium G3258 with Windows 10, note sure we'll ever see it again. I've longed to see a K processor in every tier, including i3.

did they ?

"Intel is aware of this issue and is validating a solution. It is very possible that the solution will be available through the system manufacturer and we hope to have it very soon."

Consider it's been a month, AND they've had access to Windows 10 RTM for the better part of a year, I wouldn't expect magic to happen any time soon. There are workarounds, but they're a bit laborious.

From what I can tell Intel only locked down Overclocking on the Pentium G3258 if using a H or B chipset. If you are using a Z87 or Z97 chipset and windows 10 you are still fine.

I am willing to pay the Z170 Chipset premium but it would be nice for Intel to release an i3 or Pentium Chip with unlocked multiplier again just like the Pentium G3258

So far I haven't seen any info about it. It would be nice to see unlocked i3 or 4 core Pentium as they did in mobile series. 2 threads are already not enough for many games or other applications. Even Atoms are now 4 core while on desktops nothing is changing for years.

I dont think this is gonna happen. Intel wont make a quad core i3 because the i5 range exists. the cheapest i5 is the 4440 which puts it at more or less the same price as the top tier i3-4370 which is 2C|2T which is kind of dumb if you ask me

I Honestly think consumers got lucky with the G3258 especially with how Intel's been marginalising the desktop market. While the G3258 is a nice throwback to the early days of overclocking, If they added HT to it, that would of been the cherry on top.

You can also blame the lack of changes for AMDs inability to come up with a competent answer to Intels CPUs. Intel has free reign over the CPU market and is pretty much running unopposed.

I have a Pentium G3258. It's a total s..t. While browsing an internet, CPU usage reaches 60%. Can't wait for a new CPU to be delivered.

So here it is... November of 2015 and I still can't find an answer.

Will Intel release a Skylake i3 or Pentium With Overclocking abilities.... in Windows 10? Can we overclock in Windows 10? Is it compatible?

"They were made for each other..." I hope, much more so than Haswell... OMG...

It really would have been nice to know, that there was no overclocking with Windows 10... an ignored afterthought... even in late 2015

Please excuse my ignorance, if everyone else knows the answer but me...

The unlocked Pentium G3258 is "unlocked" in celebration of a 20th anniversary. Since Skylake won't fall on the 25th anniversary, I doubt we will see another Pentium like this until such a similar event occurs.

Normal "K" SKU Intel chips have no problem with OC in Windows 10. The CPU in this system I am typing on is OC'ed, and running WIndows10 without any problems. The only chip with problems is the G3258.

Hey! Thanks for your info and response!

The G3258 was so appealing to me... not so much to fiddle with the overclocking but for more economic reasons.
I just needed something new that worked and fit my budget. Man, What a disappointing pain in the ass. A Fiasco.

I realize that if I had bought a Z97 everything would have been fine... but again economics.

So I'm just going to sit it out and watch and wait... maybe a simple G4500 Skylake and comparably priced mobo will fit the bill.

I see they are selling the G3258 for much less now, even at Amazon... But... They can keep them!
