I was gonna buy one to sell on at a profit, but it's clearly overpriced as it is.. so no.

Let me just go ahead and change my vote to "NO" after seeing benchmarks...to bad I was willing to go back to AMD but I would rather get a used 1080ti.

Yeah AMD fans said that after seeing the RTX 2080, the Radeon VII is worse in every way so I can only conclude they feel the same.

Maybe drivers will give it a nudge in the right direction as performing just around the RTX 2070 is very sucky and wouldn’t be worth it for me. Now 2080 performance would have been acceptable

Don't tell me that! Now I'm gonna keep looking....:banghead:

I don't care what anybody says. @ 20% better performance than a Vega 64 and only $100 more than the Vega 64 price at launch(plus the 3 free games)...it's a good deal. Especially if you have any other reasons to avoid Nvidia(which MANY of us do, some at all costs).

Ethical reasons...mainly. That and I generally tend to be the "go against the grain", "root for the underdog", "whatever's popular/hip/trendy is the opposite of cool and desirable", "play to my own tune", "don't give a f*** what you think of me", "rebel" type.

I'll stick with my Vega64. Its performance is on par with VII (10-15% slower in most games I play)

If they release a 64 CU, liquid cooled model similar to the Vega64 for around $800.. I might bite.

Once AMD gets the premature driver issues worked out, I think it will be a real contender, just like Vega 56/64 have become at their respective price points (provided you're not running a reference card in a poorly ventilated case... like it almost seems a lot of reviewers must be doing, because I get far better results with my Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64). Some of the reviews/benchmarks I've seen have already put the Radeon VII within 5% of the 2080, on average, with a few notable, clear-cut wins. So, if they fix whatever is going on with the drivers that is causing unexpectedly low performance in certain games/applications, the performance gap will narrow and the Radeon VII may even pull ahead.

For those of us who are essentially boycotting Nvidia for their anti-consumer, anti-competitive, opportunistic, monopolistic business practices (at least with regard to the "GeForce Partner Program"), that could make the Radeon VII a very compelling product. Personally, I also prefer AMD's drivers/software over Nvidia's clunky control panel and "GeForce Experience" (which I find to be a bad experience, overall). I hate having to use third-party software for my Nvidia cards to accomplish simple tasks like setting a frame rate limit, basic overclocking, etc.

So, those are some of my thoughts, for whatever they're worth.

So you want them to release a card that performs the same but costs more?
Not like the extra CUs does anything but waste more power anyway.
Many Vega 56 actually out clocks Vega 64 partly due to the lesser heat and the extra CUs practically doing nothing in games.

Cool! They finally all sold out. Keeps me from doing something stupid. I was a hair's breadth away from pulling the trigger on a Sapphire while Newegg still had them in stock about an hour ago. Now I can stop thinking about it...
You can always preorder. Newegg has this habit of jacking up prices of sold out products, so if doing something stupid was the goal, now would be the best time do it ;)

Nope. I've got an RTX2080 and am very happy with it. But I'm excited for AMD fans to have some new hotness and give NVidia competition, which is always good for the market. And Radeon 7 looks like it's going to be a very worthy contender.
Also why are you avoiding nvidia?

amd really do need to sort out their drivers before they release cards to the reviewers.
And people genuinely need to read and watch more than 1 review.
I don't doubt it will perform better with better drivers, but even now it smashes the 2080 in some areas (like tomb raider) and memory intensive work loads. but i dont think thats good enough given the claims, And if thats because of the drivers then you have to blame amd.

Amd put them selves in a situation over the years where you expect more from amd for the same money, so to have them release a card at the same price as a 2080 and even in my opinion (and im not a bias fan boy) perform In gaming on average worse than a 2080 thats not really what people expect.

1st impressions last, we have had amd release cards which were below par on launch and then with better drivers were out performing the nvidia GPU they were made to compete with. but thats never a guarantee And for the money its not a gamble people should take.

I also dont get the price point to be honest. genuinely think it needs to be £50 less to be attractive right now and i also think it would have performed the same with 12gb ram so they should have made it 12gb for £50 less (or a version with 12gb for £50 less.

Im not the type to buy the card now and hope the drivers get better later, so AMD really needed to get that right on launch. but they never seem to do that.
Honestly the card wil probably end up being great when the drivers mature, but who knows when or If that will happen.

Wishful thinking to get double digit gains across the board. Sure, some titles can see that, but its in the minority for sure.

You are spot on though with the drivers needing tweaked out of the gate. So many reviewers had multiple problems. I just don't get why the drivers were such a mess... its GCN2... its been out long enough that going from their Instinct line to this shouldn't have been a dramatic change.

Both are essentially tied, except on a few games that runs well over 150fps that triggers a CPU bottleneck on AMD's DX11 single threaded draw call thread, making those nVidia GPUs renders 180-280FPS which don't make a difference on playability, but AMD's GCN is very underutilized, with driver improvements along with more advanced games that are more demanding on resources, the story will repeat itself again. When Vega RX 64 got released, even the water cooling version had a hard time matching the GTX 1080, now the air cooling version consistently matches it and outperforms it on recent demanding games and the water cooling version is less than 18% behind the GTX 1080 Ti.

That is why does not make a lot of sense jumping from RX 64 LC to Vega 7, and why AMD was able to match and outperform the GTX 1080 Ti with Vega 7 with a simple shrunk Vega with higher clocks. This generation of GPUs had been boring overall. At least even the mainstream GPUs are powerful enough to max games at mainstream resolutions.

I have a strict $225 max budget for video cards and CPUs (good thing for amazon warehouse and microcenter). After that price point I don't see a value for my investment.

I almost did the same.

its been out long enough that going from their Instinct line to this shouldn't have been a dramatic change.
The only thing I could think of is that there were no game optimizations or limited game optimizations for the MI50 cards and they started from scratch?

pricing a gpu should be done on a whole system value basis..
people look at it as per item value for money when you should add up the system value to get the bigger picture,
If you have a $300 gpu and the system overall is $1200.. But a $600 GPU would gain you 80% better performance.
that would take your system over all to $1500 so technically that's 80% more performance for 25% more overall cost..
but if you looked at it at a per item cost then you are spending 100% more..

Obvious example numbers should not be taken as gospel its to illustrate a point.

pricing a gpu should be done on a whole system value basis..
people look at it as per item value for money when you should add up the system value to get the bigger picture,
If you have a $300 gpu and the system overall is $1200..

What if their budget is $1200? I guess $300 gpu it is!
