At my resolution if I crank all settings and enable HD textures I can definitely surpass my VRAM on my 2070
Cool beans... You are triple monitor, right? This is a small minority of people. I said there are cases, but they are in fact a minority.
I mean if the reference cooling is adequate why should it matter. I mean with the 2080 AIB cooling barely offers much cooling headroom above the reference triple fan design.
Because people want quiet(er) than stock and can't get it.

There are some beefy coolers on the 2080s that offer better cooling than the FEs...

So, yeah... you 1% with triple monitors or those who mod games. 16GB isn't anything but expensive on this class of card folks.

I use recently my new htc vive, and would want upgrade my monitor to a 240hz or 4k@120hz or maybe a 21:9, I'm currently sitting till 2014 with my R9-290x got it for 340€, If amd will place an RADEON SEVEN at 340€ I would defenitely buy it!
But at 699€ price tag, that a NO for me.

If they release a RADEON SIX with same gpu but maybe 8gb of VRAM instead of 16, and that can be flashed at SEVEN performance like it was with my 290, and a price tag of -399 so around 340€ like it was for my 290x, I would defenitely buy.

who care, at 399 or minus price tag I would defenitely take, it. The problem its the price, not the performance, for me it seem she have all the way to compete a gtx 1080ti or 2080 performance, the problem is that she have the same price as gtx 2080 when it came out.

I'm not even sure anyone makes 2GB HBM2 stacks anymore? So for VII to be 4096 bit 16GB was going to be the minimum amount of VRAM. That said, I think a 3072bit version with 3 stacks and 12GB of HBM2 but $599 or maybe $499 would've been good maybe?

That card will not run 4K well at all man...AMD doesn't have anything in its stable that is close to 60 FPS 4K UHD.
Vega 56 tuned can do 60FPS UHD quite easily. Ultra settings are mostly tacked on and gimmicky. Turning a few things down can improve performance so even 1070 class cards can achieve 4K 60fps with only a very minor reduction in settings quality.

oh how i miss the old days and radeon 9700pro... those were the days when ngreedia trembled before mighty radeon...
but unfortunatly today we have amd&nvidia as they are and things are not gonna change even though i hope one day finnally we get to see
a superb radeon pro or xt on top of performance charts again...
Since i'm on 1080ti and 2k i'm satisfied with performance and skippin this rtx gen...until they produce cards capable of runnin decent 120fps games with real ray tracing effects...
in short it would be cool to see radeon as the fastest card again yet cheaper then ngreedia's top card...

Indeed. But what is your point here? More is only better when it can be used, regardless.

Sorry, I game at Ultra regardless (sometimes I lower AA at 4K as it isn't needed). We've had this discussion before. I don't pay premiums on any brand to be required to lower settings. If lowering settings is OK for you, that is fine, but as the duplicate polls here showed, people's goals are to run Ultra where possible.

My initial point is in the long run it will be used, this is why 4GB cards vs 3.5 or less are staying alive where less than 4GB are struggling. Also paying more for less ram is lame.

6GB 7970, 780Ti 6GB, 980ti, 1060 6GB, 480/580/590 are going to be around for a while.

Good for you, last I recall bulk gamers are still at 1080/1440, some at 2K.

480/580/590 and 1060,1070 series along with I guess 2060 are the cash makers for Both Green and Red because very few Top badge Green and Red cards are sold.

At this moment V7 is a Prosumer card like Titan/Quadro, like the Core i9 and Threadrippers are prosumer/workstation platforms.

Just got a 1080 Ti for $550 (used), so no.....

What I don't understand is why AMD keep using HBM???

Why not do what Nvidia did, keep it only to Qudro class card, and keep the price lower.

I would not think twice, and buy the card if they switched to GDDR and lower the card by around $200

1. 1080p and 4gb is acceptable in most titles.

2. Re cards lasting due to more vram... come on. When 16gb is the norm, like the 7970, it will be too slow on modern titles anyway. Who buys a card hoping vram can be used at the end of its life?

3. Gamers are at 1080p/QHD (2k is 2048x1080, fyi) again..what is your point? I dont think you followed the discussion there with AA and jumped in halfway.

4. Yes they are cash cow... I don't see the relevance here on this one either...

5. Its a prosumer card indeed. Either pay double for a shed load more compute (this is gimped remember), or buy this one. I'd bet my life says most buyers for this card are gamers... ;)

I know what 2K is, I just mentioned that most are in those resolutions and not 4K.

I mean it seems you are condenscending of people like you are better than anyone else here because they got an AMD card/cpu and not a nvidia card/intel cpu. Not everyone have deep pockets to spend 1000+ on a cpu or gpu or monitor/TV.

Get a grip.

Lol, it's not about some E-Peen status symbol and "the principle" of running Ultra. It's about getting the best gaming experience. NVIDIA started this pricing BS with the 20 series, so in that case 2080 TI is the only card on earth for 60fps UHD E-Peen "muh settingz are maxed " gaming? If you want to have to spend $1K+ on a GPU to run a 4K monitor and get a good experience at 60fps, because you refuse to tweak settings, that's up you. :) but that's beside the point.

WTH are you talking about? It did go over your head...and apparently AAffection too??? WTH? :(

I could honestly give two shits about who gets what. The conversation here is about the hardware, not what size GPU I am swinging. HOw the hell did you BOTH misunderstand what I am saying??? I went by the duplicate polls people started... people want ultra. Its not me just spouting off. I don't understand what triggered you two to twist things. I apologize if that is how it came off, but I don't think it did... I was just responding to AA....o_O:wtf:

All I am saying is that people WANT ultra. Clearly not everyone can have it. My 4K comment was in response to FPS performance and how it can be playable. I prefer not to have to lower my settings (I game at 2560x1440 144 Hz) if at all possible, like the vast majority prefer!

I have no idea how you two crazy cats turned this into pissing on me being condescending about hardware... I never inferred, nor alluded to anything in that manner. This isn't about me (I used myself as an example of how I prefer to game - I did not disparage anyone else) and let's leave the misplaced personal barbs out of it.

Even if lowering settings has neglible impact on perceived quality? you should really look up some comprisons of High/Very High to Ultra. it's hilarious. Ultra seems to be 'tacked on' to satisfy "PC Gamer crowd". The best IQ/perf ratio is almost always not Ultra.

Balance is Key.

VH vs U miniscule diff, can anyone really see that?

Games that have VH only and not U, basically VH and U are the same...

Its something I prefer not to do if I do not have to (lower settings).

The difference between settings can be negligible, or it can be noticeable across almost any genre. It depends on the game, really. All I am saying (and the majority of BOTH poll respondents) is that most prefer to run the highest settings they can. I am no different (yet I am condescending? LULZ).

Amazing how this got twisted into me trying to be a dick... wow. Talk about needing a grip. :(

How does this help in gaming? Its a QHD card and few (any?) titles will reach 8GB there.
Deus Ex MD and ROTR both had issues (crashes) on my GTX 1080 at 1440p due to vram shortage.I got no stutter or performance drop, the game just crashed and I got a "insufficient resources to run this application" warning. In Deus Ex I fixed it by disabling msaax2 but in ROTR it still persisted despite using smaa. When I got my 1080Ti I saw that in vram usage in ROTR can climb up to 10GB.

Ultra vs Very High settings are certainly close in most cases, in few instances I can tell a difference, in most I can't. It depends on a game and most importantly on whether or not you know whereto look for those differences.

Well that's fair enough, I guess. But saying Radeon VII can't do 60fps 4K isn't really fair. :3

Either way, I'm not even defending the VII. It's a mediocre product even to me and I'm usually quite pro-AMD. I was really disappointed they went and followed NVIDIA pricing, but i guess as you suggested with the VRAM thing, this card is expensive as hell to make. :/
