I am just happy AMD unlocked the FP64 performance on the VII. Like 3.5 TFLOPs of FP64... on a gaming card. Its a selling point for the card, for sure.
Because games need FP64?
I mean, don't get me wrong, an extra feature is a plus, I just don't get that excited about compute features on video cards. And maybe without all that FP64 hw, the card would have been $500 or less?

What are those features you can use right now, this very day? RTX in BFV that makes it look like everything is a light film of oil and DLSS in FFXV that makes the IQ worse? Anything that I am missing? If you don't play either of those games, what are those features worth?

Buying the VII is like making a charity donation to AMD.
And you can't even hold it against them for asking 2080 money because it provable costs even more to manufacture than a 2080.

I failed to realize that pointing out DLSS and RTX only benefits people that play one or both of a list of two games makes me sour.

My apologies Masta...won't happen again.

I never said it made the RTX2080 more future proof. An IQ feature that can be turned off with no affect on gameplay is never going to make a card future proof.

But it is still a feature.

We are living in times when a FOV slider is a feature. :p

quite sad, i was hoping VII will be the new nvidia killer card. better performance, better priced. that way nvidia is forced to lower the priced of their 20xx card, which I intend to buy.

The card has an identity crisis, lol... :)
Still trying to understand whos gonna buy this for compute? No ECC support, no CUDA and Tensor Flow support. So people just gonna use it compute the next hot crypto coins?

content creation maybe ? though without a real powerhouse of a workstation you'd barrely see a difference between mid-range and high-end gpus tbh.
for some it doesn't matter,as long as it's amd and they'll pay +$700 for less than 1080Ti performance in 2019 and still be happy they got a deal of a lifetime

After reading a few comments and seeing the reviews, 16gb on this radeon card is pretty much completely pointless. 8gb would been more then enough on card given where the card sits performance wise in the market and with that memory amount they could under cut price of 2080 to steal some market but typical of AMD they don't think about that instead of wanting to check off features. By the time you get to 8+gb memory in games Now days you are starting to get in to unplayable FPS range. About the only thing card does well is opencl compute workloads but that has been case for amd cards for a lot of years now and that isn't what staple of gaming cards. It helps in some games yes but not vast majority of major games that rely on it to point need more then what nvidia offers on their card.

A few pages back someone said "freesync was amd's secret weapon." Not really it was a knee jerk reaction to when nvidia released g-sync in which could argue was one the biggest things to hit the market of monitors since probably lcd's came out or high refresh rates came to be. It wasn't so much of a weapon due to AMD did just release the spec's then let makers figure it out which made freesync have a very rocky early years as took years for monitors to mature enough to work like intented without a ton of ghosting and other issues.

So taking into consideration on how I rate things cause I got reamed out by some expert; here is the breaking point as to why I wont buy this card:

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Brand/amd/RadeonVII.Offer.aspx

The price. It is close to $1000 CAD for this card.

I know our currency dropped by 25% or so, it is astonishing how we are getting reamed on prices.

I'm thinking about buying the card but the price is quite high now. Maybe the good idea is to wait a bit and see what happens later.

I said no because i'm not a big video editor and i dont have a need for such compute power but i know people who would buy this gpu.

If we are talking about gaming most of people game on 1080p and at the moment do to that you don't need to pay more than 250 usd for a good gpu.

Not even the 2500$ RTX Titan has ECC, I know AMD is expected to give people every single feature in existence for next to nothing but what can you do. Maybe next time.

And believe it or not the world doesn't revolve around CUDA and machine learning exclusively as Jensen has been trying to convince everyone for years.

As a matter of fact, though Radeon VII can compete with RTX2080 in performance,I would not buy it because it can’t be well supported by a number of games. And it have not Ray Tracing, and DLSS.If it could be 20% off,i will consider it.

The driver supplied to the press have been problematic. AMD needed to sort them out before release. Once that happens the performance will improve. I say this because many a reviewer had problems with the "Press Release" drivers and got their hands on some alternate drivers where performance was much better but buggy as hell.
