Missing DP 2.0 ports is a deal breaker for me, as when I buy a gfx card, I generally buy a top tier card, then hold onto cards for 4-5 or so years. With no DP 2.0 ports, there is no future proofing against high hertz 4k monitors that will be coming along in the next year or 2 (which some games can already saturate a 120 hertz screen with over 120fps).

So waiting for the 3080ti, or 3090ti, and hoping they have DP 2.0 ports.

Bought a 3080 Ti FE last December. I do not plan to upgrade for the next 2-3 years, minimum.

I will say the same about my RX 6800 XT, I will not touch the RTX 40 series or RX 7000 series because I don't have the cash saved up anymore.

Plus I am really more happy with my RX 6800 XT Red Devil as much as I was with the reference card.

I also owned a RTX 3070 ROG Strix which only pulled system board power at about 195 watts when optimized and a RTX 3090 but I wasn't as happy as I am with the RX 6800 XT.

RTX 4080 12gb is priced too high, amd could take this opportunity to challenge it with 7700xt and price it much lower
if they succeed in doing that nvidia's rtx 4070 might be out of place this time

After waiting months for a 3080 last year and primarily gaming on a 1440p monitor, I see no use in upgrading to the 4090. On top of that no 4090 would ever realistically fit in my mini ITX case (unless custom water cooled). I'll most likely wait for a more power efficient and smaller sized card with >= the performance of this card in the next generation of GPUs.

Yeah... we also have leaks saying x80 is AD103... this blurry photo is a whole lot of nothing and the gap in perf/SM count is pretty high for them to be different dies.

Highly unlikely imho

Common sense, mate.
RTX 4090 - AD102.
RTX 4080-16 - AD103.
RTX 4080-12 & RTX 4070 - AD104.

Can't be anything else, unless nvidia has an even smaller die - AD106 for the RTX 4070.

I tend to agree, I'm betting the 4080 12gb will be short lived, one way or another (discontinued or impossible to find), with a 4070 almost equalling it but coming out later. Then if and when there's AD106 it could be your 4060, and so on.

I got the 650W PSU to remove any temptation to buy an overpriced GPU. Give me a sub 500€ 3080 level GPU at 200W and I'm in.

Common sense, ,, Nvidia and common sense, stares at 4080/12.

With Nvidia that means nothing,it could be a third 4080 with fractionally less of everything but the same Label like the new 3060Ti due out.

Nah nope not no sir, no Ty, f right the f off no 4090 future paperweight buying Muppet here.

With inflation I would allow myself up to £800 UK notes IF I had it free, I don't but if I did I would not ever stretch to 1.5K ever, on principal.

That to me is like new car buying, a special way to prove your special for one year then a special way to prove your just special, at loosing money.

No. Realisticly i don't really have a use for it at 1440p, but not even if i had, if people enable this behaviour from AMD/Nvidia prices will never make sense again.

With Nvidia that means nothing,
In respect to making as much money while taking advantage of the small window between launch and RDNA3 announcement, plus pricing to make the stock of 30 series seem like better value, I'd argue that from a business perspective it made a hell of a lot of sense.

The names are the names and yeah, the 4080 12gb sucks as an xx80 product, but pricing a 4070 at 900 USD would probably have them crucified even worse, damned if they do, damned if they don't, a short term ploy to make maximum profits, and it'll probably work.

Bear in mind that people like us here on forums etc make up a very vocal, yet slim minority of all buyers.

For those who think 4080 12 is 407o

4080 12 and RTX 3060 are both 300 sq.mm 192 bit
4080 16 and RTX 3070 are virtually the same 400sq.mm 256 bit non fully enabled.

3090 to 4090 got $100 more expensive, but 3070 to 4080 16 is a huge $700 price jump.

So that leaves me the choice. It's 4090 or 4050. Since both 4080's are in fact 406o and 407o.

For me to buy one of these monsters, it will have to:

A) Make and serve my coffee, exactly the way I like it..ie...hot, smooth, rich, & creamy... (just like my wife)
B) Self-clean itself weekly, both physically and driver/software bloat
C) Yanky me wanky, on demand
D) Make everything on my screens look so realistic, that there will neva, eva be any need for anything like VR/AR or other seizure & addiction-inducing nonsense

Otherwise, I can & will easily find multiple betta ways to spend $1.5-2k, hehehe :)

So to summarize: nGreedia can B.M.A.....

In addition to the comical sizes I cannot be the only one that figured out that the Ti and 4090 Ti lost 2 HDMI outs, too
Nope. Also, why TF does the 2070S have a USB-C (latest and greatest port) but the next two generation FLAGSHIPS do not?

Yep, there are two models on Newegg right now.

A month or so ago 6700 was $369 and the 6700 XT was $430, but it looks like the 6700 has lost that price advantage. The GPU price decline took a breather for the last 3-4 weeks, but the prices appear to be falling again.

The 6700XT at $389 is clearly the deal here, although I think the XFX and the Sapphire 6700's are better quality cards.

TBH, It will take a fair bit of mental gymnastics to justify buying ARC at $350 while these prices are available.

View attachment 264963
Those are some prices indeed! Here, the cheapest 6700 XT is around £460 which is exactly what the reference 6750 XT costs as well. Other 6750 XTs start at £550-570.

I guess we'll see what Arc will cost soon, but I doubt it'll be the equivalent of $350 or even £350. If it lands above £400, I think I'll go with the 6750 XT instead. I've never had a reference model anyway.

Its fcking massive & way too power hungry, setting the bar for the rest of the stack in the worst possible way (evident by the rain of 3 slot bricks) since, well, ever.

I loved Nvidia cards for their focus on efficiency. They had that crown until they started doing RT, and since then, we've regressed. I really call it regression. Products got worse; Turing was meh because the perf/dollar barely moved forward, Ampere was and still is the messiest Nvidia stack ever and initial product line up short on VRAM, and ADA is the current culmination of TDP figures spiralling ever further out of control.

It is as with the CPU development into much hotter and more hungry parts: YOU are left figuring out how to remove all that heat again. Its an added expense just like the additional power bill impact. One might wonder if the perf/dollar isn't actually regressing instead of being 'stable', which is already bad enough. Matter of fact, with the current prices for electrical, I reckon in many places the perf/dollar IS worse as we speak.

Buying x90 is saying 'this is fine' and asking for more of it. I'll never do that.

As for urge... you've said it. Rationale is out the window, only strong emotions can make you buy this POS, or put differently, if we're a plaything of marketing and commerce. Oh yeah, and 'creators' of course because how else could they 'work' :D

Its simple: you get what you pay for.

Now that the reviews are out, it looks like your assumptions were incorrect - RTX 4090 has made massive strides towards efficiency.
