I'm curious to see what AMD has coming down the pike....
Why would AMD's stuff need to pass through a fish before coming to market?

Richard Swinburne said:How do we calculate CPU and Platform value?
OK humble readers, it's time to crack out those calculators and pop on those math hats because we've got some sums to work out. Well, in truth, you don't - that's our task - but we'll walk you through how we've calculated the value of CPUs and platforms we've tested with to see what's thebest bangfor buck punt for your pound! Many have said the Core i7 platform is too expensive to warrant an upgrade, but by putting a number to the performance increases we hope to try and ascertain if this extra cost is justified.
And how do we do this?

Ah, but is your E8500 @ 4 Ghz faster than a Phenom 9950 @ 3.4 Ghz ?
Thats saying a lot considering in the UK the E8500 costs the same and sometimes more than the 9950.
Edit:
To answer the poll:
I think I'm gong to stick with my Athlon 3800+ X2 @ 2.7 Ghz, it plays my current games with extremely high frame rates and high detail coupled with 8 GBs of DDR2 and a 9600 GT. However next year in June/July 2009 I may decide to purchase a high end AMD such as the Phenom 9950 or see what the Deneb is offering. I have no intension of changing my motherboard to Intels or AM3 because I dont like the idea of changing my ram from DD2 to DDR3 just because Intel/AMD feel like change. Moving to AM3 will be expensive and moving to Intel would be stupidly expensive. I'm staying with AM2 for another 2 years.

with a mere 9600GT, you wont get any faster FPS by swapping CPU's, at least not until you get a faster video card.

Agreed.
To be honest I'm actually content with my current setup, I downloaded the Tombraider Underworld demo a couple of weeks back and was able to achieve about 30-60 FPS with everything maxed out @ 1440x900 4x AA, I've got Call of Duty: World at War on pre-order and it should arrive on Friday, this is the game I plan on playing for the next year or so, so any GPU upgrades would be based around it.
If I feel that my GPU's performance is suffering by mid next year I wouldn't hesitate to sell off my 9600 GT for a ATI 4850/4850 X2 or the best bang for my buck GPU at the time.

"Coming down the pike"
lol! It's a saying! Means, what's coming......
Btw - I'm not a fanboi of AMD or Intel. I'm a fan of competition and better prices with better performance for the consumer. If AMD starts competing again, we all win.

Although we found that the sequential throughput does not reach the interface bandwidth, the next SSD generation will certainly have to use SATA/300 instead of SATA/150 to avoid the interface becoming a bottleneck. When we compared four Memoright 32-GB flash SSDs to four Seagate Savvio 10K.2 2.5” SAS drives and four 3.5” WD1500 Raptor drives, we found the conventional drives don’t stand a chance against the four Memoright device. A 0.2-ms access time is amazing for a RAID 0 array (vs. 7.4 ms for the Seagate Savvio 10K.2 and 8.5 ms for WD’s Raptors). The Memoright flash SSDs also sustain a minimum write transfer rate of 323 MB/s in RAID 0, while the Savvios drop to 199 MB/s and the Raptors go down to 177 MB/s. The read throughput of 450 MB/s for the Mtron quartet is equally impressive.

Indeed, I was being sarcastic - however being English I do not ever describe a main road as a turnpike, so the saying here has lost most of its original meaning, and most people don't know its origins any more.
