Will see i am a nvidia fan boy i probably sell my 7970s and go for SLI 680s just because i like nvidia hardware O_O god help me.

If you like Nvidia hardware why bother buying the 7970's in the first place? :wtf:

Very happy with my 7970, 1075/1475 all day long and temps are lower than any previous card I have owned. It's a beast, looking forward to seeing the performance of the HD 7990 and GTX 690. I think the GTX 660 $299 and beating the 7970 is just FUD, spread to stop people buying the 7970. Classy tactics by Nvidia lol..

I want to switch to an Nvidia GPU since the AMD drivers haven't been playing nicely with my Computer since I jumped to Sandy Bridge\P67. Most of the games I play also seem to mysteriously benefit from having an Nvidia card (Rift, SWTOR, BF3, Skyrim) and suffer tons of errors when using an AMD card. My HD5850 has treated me well, but I plan on either getting the equivalent of a "660Ti" or a "670" depending on the Cost\Performance. Worst case scenario, Kepler will level the prices of the GPU's AMD releases so I don't end up spending more than I have to.

I prefer nvidia for the folding@home performance, and because amd pricing for hd7000 is a joke, im not paying 500 dollar unless i can read nvidia performance. my actual card is ati amd or whatever they want to be called now, but i think nvidia will make now as amd did, and offer better product price proportion.

And i find really offensive how ppl have let consoles and their acolytes to dominatrix pc gaming to such point they just let them decide their upgrades.

So actually you are contributing to game studios to not make better pc game versions, cause actually you keep your rig limited by consoles:banghead::banghead::banghead:.

First. If you overpower your pc sooner or later some game studios will see the potential of awesomeness they can reach in a pc title on the easy and without the need of lot of optimization. Awesomeness was how crytek made their name way before they turned into console slaves:respect:.

Second. There are still LOT OF PC ONLY GAMES and projects, and mods.

Did you try photorealistic mods for Crysis. You cannot do that in a console. And you cannot buy enough power to run some of them at max.

Did you try photorealistic minecraft mods, they are impressive.

Did you try megabig textures pack for games like skyrim.

Did you know there is a chance to get some vr experience with the appropiate peripherals and some game or mods for games.

Third. There are far more reasons than games to get a big powerfull pc. Like folding@home that works much better on nvidia and makes a really honest and compasionate reason to spend money of big pc computing power. And with gpu computing increasing everyday you get more and more reasons to invest in pc power.

PC GAMING IS THE ONLY HARDCORE GAMING. THE REST ARE TOYS. LET BRING THE DOOM 2 DAYS BACK.:rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout:

the GK104, GTX680 will be packing 2GB on 256 bit bus.

still i mean for cards like 670 and 660 with 2gb memory or else they will lose more and more to AMD i think, bcs if games want more and more memory and 1,5gb ain't enough in 1920x1080p than there is a problem, if u can follow me.

In the US (Newegg) the 3GB EVGA GTX 580 is $550.

The price is the same for the inferior GTX 580. In some cases I can buy a HD 7970 for £440 in UK but I can't buy a 3GB GTX 580 for that much.

So, why are people still bitching about the price of the HD7970? It hands down beats the GTX 580. Reality check for top spec GPU pricing required for many peeps methinks. :shadedshu

PC GAMING IS THE ONLY HARDCORE GAMING. THE REST ARE TOYS. LET BRING THE DOOM 2 DAYS BACK.

1) Calm the heck down. Trolls are often times less vehement in their hatred.
2) Not all games get a dedicated team to provide upgrades to them, and not all upgrades are worth installing. You've cited three decent mods, but seem to forget that the majority of games do not have mods. If you can find graphically more intensive mods for Serious Sam 3, Earth Defense Force, Terraria, Worms, and 90% of the other games on the market I'll eat my hat.
3) Financial realities are that the console game development market is a lucrative environment. Companies exist to make money, so they develop for consoles. Whether PC gamers are angry about this or not, it does not change the financial realities.
4) None of this relates to new graphics cards, that may use entirely new instruction sets to boost performance.

So my opinion remains unchanged; despite being able to max out graphics cards today with extremely heavy modding, I am not waiting for Kepler.

Sounds like a bad experience!

For me it depends on price... I don't plan to upgrade graphics until I've moved to Ivy Bridge with a whole new MB, so that may be a factor. And that's not going to happen until next winter. By then we'll likely have the next gen out anyway.

Even with my Core2 and a 5870, it's still happy with everything I throw at it... why upgrade?

Ill wait and see what these Kepler cards are capable of. I game at 2560*1440 and my AMD6970 just cant manage with all the eye candy turned on. 7970 or Kepler, either way I will upgrade.

In the US (Newegg) the 3GB EVGA GTX 580 is $550.
In the UK the 3GB GTX 580's are about £450 (and upwards).

In the US (Newegg) the HD 7970 is $550.
In the UK the HD 7970 is £450 (and upwards).

:shadedshu

The 3GB model is overpriced for sure, but all tests where the GTX580 was used they used the 1.5GB version--which costs $500 ($450 after rebate). The average cost for the GTX580 3GB which is only beneficial to people playing heavily modded games or playing at very high resolutions, is $530-550. The lowest cost HD7970 is now an HIS model for $550, and that just went on sale this week. Prior to that they were running upwards of $600, usually around $580 and were also in very low supply. Now, with prices leveling out it doesn't seem so bad. But when the comparison was either pay $450 after rebate for a GTX580, or pay $600 for a marked up HD7970, it didn't seem so hot.

You're also forgetting the consumer perception of AMD being the generally lower cost brand. Currently they have 1 7xxx series card out, and it runs nearly $600. The HD6970 at launch was $370. Do you see why people aren't exactly excited about it's price? It is definitely worth the cost, but for people wanting to upgrade from 4xxx series cards to something newer, $600 is just not reasonable.

Keeping what I have for a while. Will probably wait another gen before I think about upgrading. TBH, I want to upgrade my cpu/mobo and storage first.
