Win 10 Pro Anniversary Update = black screen when running games. Is there a fix?

Recently updated to the Anniversary Update for Win 10 Pro. I held out for a while but decided to go ahead and install it. I am now receiving black screens when running games. The only work around is to run them in windowed mode rather than full screen. I can't update my video card drivers as they are the latest. Running a GTX 1070.

Is there any known fix for this?

Do you have multiple monitors by chance?

Honestly the best way to fix it is to download the ISO of W10 with the latest updates and reinstall.

I feel for you man, it was a horrible update that screwed up so many systems.

I'd reinstall the drivers, which you can do and choose a clean install.

If that fails, check Event Logs and see if anything is reported. Do your games run fine otherwise?

I'd also suggest you run an SFC repair, see if that finds anything.

If that does find errors and can't fix themall...do a DISM repair.

Check out the Windows Repair link in my sig for directions on the repairs if you end up needing to go that route. I'd bet a clean driver install fixes it tho...maybe try an older driver? You have 6+ months worth to choose from for that card.

Asking others, who are all noticing the same problems on their Win 10 machines. Games seem to run fine otherwise. There seems to be two problems, depending on the game:

1) Black screen.
2) Slow frame rates, around 5.

Interesting on the slow frames. I haven't seen that one....which games are you having which issues?

Does or matter if DX 9, 10, 11 or 12, OGL or Vulkan?

I wonder on slowness if the GPU is stuck in idle clock mode? Have you tracked that?

Battlefield 4 (black screen)
Battlefield 1 (slow frame rates in place of black screen)

Reinstall nvidia drivers, which was of no use. GPU is clocking up the same as it was before for myself and everyone I have asked.

Have you tried older drivers?

Did you try running an SFC scan?

Win 7 . I'm not being funny either I've actually recently created a dual boot PC . I didn't do it because of gaming , but I'd be a liar if I didn't say it was because of instabilities and device conflicts that only present themselves in the windows 10 environment. Sorry I didn't have a better answer for you

Here is what I did that fixed the problem. I uninstalled:
KB3213986

This did not help though at first. I re-installed video card drivers again, after uninstalling KB3213986. Keep in mind that it only worked in that order. Initially I re-installed my video card drivers. That was the first thing I tried after the update as it seemed rather obvious.

It does not seem like there is a block update option in Win 10 like there was in 7, so you must uninstall KB3213986 and then reinstall video card drivers before restarting. At least, that is what worked for me.
