Hey guys,

I did a fresh install of win8 and updated/installed to win8.1. Now my usb2.0 hub on my case is completely inoperable. The hub did work on my previous install of win8. Devices work when installed onto the usb ports of the motherboard. I figure that this is some type of windows driver issue, being that usb support is supposed to be native in win8.1, I just don't know what driver it is or where to download it.
Or I could be completely wrong.

Any idea's or suggestions?

EDIT: I noticed that devices are getting power then plugged into the hub, the OS is just not recognizing them. I've tried this with my usb headphones and a usb drive.

Double check bios, maybe even clear CMOS, ensure the USB FP header is seated and maybe try a second header (most every MB I've installed for the last 10 years has had 2 internal USB headers).

Also ensure you installed the correct chipset drivers as well, as those contain the USB device drivers for the mainboard as well. Though really they should be detected if your seeing power.

I can't say I've had anything like that happen with 8.1 yet, so I'd check drivers..you might go into device manager and uninstall each USB hub until you can't anymore and do a restart (probably via power button to power off and then cold boot). Keep us posted!

Is there actually a hub inside your case or are you just referring to the front panel ports that are directly connected to the motherboard? Since they are getting power, this sounds like a drivers issue. If it was a disconnected cable it would be highly unlikely you would get power.

Either way, I would recommend downloading and installing the chipset drivers and seeing what happens. You can get them here. A USB hub shouldn't need any additional drivers since Microsoft has a generic USB hub driver.

Sorry, I should have included more info. I updated all drivers and even double checked the updates. I also updated the BIOS.
Uninstalling the usb hubs in device manager is something I will have to try - I hadnt thought of that.

I'm referring to the front ports.
I just downloaded the chipset drivers from intel's website, that you directed me to. I shall try that and waht Kursah mentioned and report back tomorrow.
