Window XP SP3 Release Candidate Publicly Available

If you're eager to get your hands on Windows XP's third service pack you'll be pleased to hear that the first release candidate is now available for download from here. As this is not a final version it is recommended that you do not install this on your primary Windows installation, although it should be fairly stable and secure. Microsoft has also released the final version of Office 2007 Service Pack 1, available for download from this page, which includes a number of stability, performance and security updates.

I'm going to install this on this system (not the one in my specs) and do SuperPi comparisons. Won't run 3DMark, not powerful enough.

Firstly get a life you insensitive twat, if you had of read his previous posts he said that he was testing it on his older celeron system, secondly hes only about 13 and quite frankly hes the only one whos bothered to try it so far, so cheers ben, at least it shows at least some improvement over SP2 no matter how large or small :rockout:

I would think if you installed XP "curiously" and you bypassed WGA and got Ie7 and WMP11 (like some of us have ::cough:

you could install this. Im probably wrong, however. Ill give it a whirl.

You should test boot time, and idle ram usage with nothing installed, such as anti virus etc.

SP2 runs fine for me. I can wait for official SP3. SP3 is mostly just a big pile of updates with tweaks here and there for performance increases.

Guys... The performance increase promised with SP3 was only for office applications... Speed comparisons are pointless unless you're comparing the applications affected by the service pack.

this SP should bring back the overall user experience there was with XP before SP2, after SP2 the OS is SLower overall, SP1 was way faster.

Haha. That's because SP2 focused more on security than SP1 ever did. They actually brought new things to the OS in SP2, so of course it's going to consume more memory and use more CPU cycles.

SP2 is better than SP1, and if you slipstream SP2 into the XP install files you shouldnt see any noticable perf hit, at least I never have. Plonking SP2 on top of SP1 however... now thats a BAD idea.

AHhhhhhh. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. My second HUGE laugh from this thread. I don't care how old he is. To use an old celeron PC to judge the performance of this is ridiculous. He went on to say it is not a worthwhile SP by this "test" and that is why I think it is so stupid. Call me all the names you want, but that was truly a completely useless "test".

And it matters... why? I can't really do any 3DMark tests, since it has an R200 integrated GPU with 64MB off the RAM. And, I did it to see what the performance would be like for non-ocers who don't need to have uber-leet parts to run. This is a low spec system, as such, should offer a basic insight into the performance of the pack. And flaming is a sure-fire way to get people to hate you, by the way.
