Has anyone else run into issues with the install. This is the second waste of 1-2 hours this stupid update has put my HTPC through. It fails to boot into windows after it finishes the shut down cycle section of the update it will just sit with the spinning orbs forever and not do a single thing. Already reinstalled windows on it once and would prefer to not do it again.

SPECS:

AMD Athlon 5350 w/ onboard GPU
Asrock AM1H
1x4gb and 1x8GB DDR3
120GB OCZ trion
90w laptop PSU

Have you turned off/on secure boot mode? Could be something stopping it temporarily with that...

How long have you let it sit at the spinning orb screen? I have seen it take a while on slower laptops at this for the first 10 initialization.

You could always create a bootable dvd or usb and upgrade that way...though really I've had very good luck using the download and update from Windows method in most upgrade situations.

I've updated my HTPC just the other day and have wasted probably close to 6-8hrs. Issues with display link drivers and the 7" secondary display on the case. My main PC updated without issues.
Have you tried performing a complete fresh install (re-format) and updating all drivers manually?

Secure boots off and I played two games of CnC so that's about an hour.

I will burn the iso and try it thay way I guess. I have the full build I may just do it as a clean install.

I wouldn't worry about it. On my main rig it isn't even prompting me either. Even tho my other W10 machine updated and works fine, I am content to let my main rig wait, because I've seen too much anecdotal evidence on the internet that anniversary edition was not ready for prime time.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-update-history

Click "Get the Anniversary Update Now", download the file and run. I've done this to 5 workstations/laptops this week that weren't upgrading to 1607. No issues what-so-ever manually performing this method. Maybe you already found this link, if not then enjoy! :)

Ya it should really have resolved within an hour...but I have seen slow laptops take over an hour to initialize everything...though that's with slow old hard drives and older systems. The rig you spec'd in the OP shouldn't take that long IMHO.

Seems like you might get the best results from a bootable upgrade/install path, while unfortunate should provide much better results. Unless there's a driver bug that Windows can't get past which is what is taking so long. Can't say I've had any issues with AMD platforms and Win 10 myself..I'm sure there are others that have.

I will I haven't seen this issue at work so kind of a kick in the shin when it popped up on one of 3 AM1 builds. The other two haven't even tried to do the update.

Did the update was faster than expected just had to hack the PCI-E settings again and correct audio settings. Everything else seems untouched (drivers).

On my installation it doesn't even want to update to Anniversary build, seems to ignore it. Is there a way to install it manually?

I know you posted back in August and likely have it already, but this page is useful for those still looking to upgrade to 1607, you can choose to use the new ISO or use this page and download: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-update-history

Wow I just updated my Windows 10 to this latest version of 10 (it did it itself) and its so much slower! and again open GL is broken....This OS just gets better and better....

Ya some folks have issues and corruption/failed update issues here. I personally haven't had any issues with 1607 on any of my personal rigs or family rigs, but have seen plenty of customer/client PC's. But depending on what your issues really are beyond vague slowness and OpenGL broken I'd start with running an administrative command line and run SFC /Scannnow and see if that resolves any OS corruptions.

Might not hurt to check and verify if the Windows Update cache is corrupted...I've been seeing this issue more on 7 than 10, but I've seen it on both.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058
http://ccm.net/faq/2471-how-to-purge-the-windows-update-cache

Hopefully that will get you in the right direction to resolving issues.

I'd also recommend checking Event Log system logs to see if there's something causing major issues, also if your hard drive is busy, get into Resource Monitor and find out what's taking up those resources. Might not hurt to run a malware scan just in case something was on there and is kicked now and just happened to coincide with the Windows Updates you ran.

Problems with W10 Anniv auto update:

Mom's: (x58 Xeon 5677) Windows Defender was not turned back on automatically (it was "on" in the 1511 edition) and she had a Trojan. Full system scan to eradicate.
Her Epson printer was knocked off, had to uninstall by Device Manager pull USB cable and reconnect cable. W10 did the rest.

Step-mom's: (HP pre built) Windows Defender not turned back on by default. Her USB Seagate Expansion Drive 2Tb was offline so all backup routines were halted. Had to rerun backup plan. Had her do a full virus scan.

Step-dad's: (Dell Optiplex tweaked upgrades) Windows Defender not turned back on by default. Full Scan.

My intermittently laptop went through a couple of attempts before succeeding yesterday. At first I thought the partition was to small as I couldn't do the update on another laptop with a 120GB C: partition but that obviously wasn't the problem.

i cant say for sure what might be causing problems for those who are experiencing issues, but I figured it couldnt hurt to point this out to those who might not be aware of it, it is ONLY effecting Insider program members. as far as M$ has announced.

I was having troubles with the recent update also. It took an hour and a half to install and after finishing, I was unable to connect to the internet. I had a connection to the internet but for whatever reason couldn't reach any sites/use any applications. I was able to fix it by rolling back to the previous build, but it sure seems to be causing a lot of issues.
